To celebrate a great first season since its recent relaunch, Overwatch is giving all players five free Loot Boxes and a weekend of Double Match XP. This is a thank you to fans for making the season such a success!
Blizzard quickly revitalized Overwatch in 2026 by essentially relaunching it after removing the ‘2’ from Overwatch 2. The game now features ongoing seasonal stories, a redesigned user interface, more specialized hero roles, and ten new characters—five of which were added in the first season. The result has been incredibly successful, with Overwatch breaking player count records on Steam and attracting a large audience on Twitch and other streaming services.
Double XP Weekend and Five Free Loot Boxes in Overwatch
To celebrate the fantastic start to Season 1 in Overwatch, Blizzard is giving players a special bonus this weekend. Until Monday, February 23rd, you’ll earn double the Battle Pass XP in your games, and anyone who logs in will receive five free Loot Boxes.

Overwatch Double XP Weekends Explained
Image via Blizzard Some players might be wondering what “Double Match XP” actually does. This boost increases the amount of Battle Pass XP you earn from each game of Overwatch. Normally, you get around 700 to 1,000 XP per match, depending on whether you win or lose. You already get a 20% bonus for playing with friends, and another bonus (usually 100-500 XP) for choosing popular roles. This weekend, the Double Match XP boost will apply to all of these, meaning you could easily earn over 2,000 Battle Pass XP in a single game.
Just so you know, this XP boost won’t change the amount of Battle Pass XP you get from daily, weekly, or special event challenges. It also won’t affect how quickly you level up individual heroes.
How to Get Free Overwatch Lootboxes This Weekend
Getting your free Loot Boxes is simple! Just log in anytime during the event, and you’ll automatically receive them. A notification will pop up to let you know they’ve been added to your account. You can then open the Loot Boxes from your inventory in Overwatch like normal.
Image via Blizzard Fans can also get free Loot Boxes through the Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1: Conquest Twitch Drops, available until March 8th at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Just watch any Overwatch stream on Twitch for a total of 13 hours to earn 10 free Loot Boxes, including 2 Legendary ones.
Image via Twitch Plus, the current Overwatch Conquest event offers almost 100 Loot Boxes as rewards. Each week, players choose to support either Talon or Overwatch by completing a special event Battle Pass. After finishing the pass, you can stick with your chosen team for more Loot Boxes, or switch sides as a Double Agent to unlock unique cosmetic items.
The second week of the Overwatch event is now happening, and players who didn’t complete their event passes last week still have a chance to earn rewards. Due to problems with how rewards were being given out, Overwatch has given all players who finished at least one event challenge all of the Loot Boxes and cosmetic items from the Prestige Pass. New players joining now can get almost 20 Loot Boxes, or even 30 if they watch Overwatch streams on Twitch and claim the Twitch Drops. It’s clear that Overwatch is thriving again, and Blizzard seems dedicated to making sure the community benefits.
