Overwatch Officially Reveals Next Hero

Blizzard has announced the newest hero coming to Overwatch in Season 2 of Reign of Talon: a soldier who fights with drones and a special rifle, and is recognizable by their long pink braid. This hero, currently known only as Hero 51, will be playable when the new season launches.

This year, Overwatch is shaking things up with how it adds new characters. Instead of releasing a new hero every few months, the game will introduce ten new characters in 2026. The first five will be available when the new season, Reign of Talon, launches, and then one new character will be added each season after that.

Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 Hero Revealed

Blizzard has just given us our first look at the next hero coming in the upcoming Reign of Talon Season 2! While details are still limited, a recent silhouette reveal shows a female character with tan skin and a sporty green and red outfit. She appears to wield a long, two-pronged rifle, potentially firing unusual projectiles. But the most noticeable things about Hero 51 are her long braid and a matching pink drone that flies alongside her.

Currently, details about the new character – including their name, history, and powers – are still a secret. We’ll start learning more on April 8th with the release of their official Hero Trailer, which will likely be a new animated video that introduces the character and continues the story from the first chapter of Reign of Talon. The character will become playable on April 14th when the new Overwatch season begins.

Who Is the Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 Hero?

Okay, so everyone’s trying to figure out who this new hero is, and honestly, she looks a lot like Frankie from Ashe’s Deadlock gang. Frankie uses these little microdrones for talking and scouting, and this new hero seems to do the same thing. Plus, the Deadlock crew is already helping Vendetta with a plan to attack Watchpoint: Grand Mesa – it used to be an Overwatch base, but now Helix runs it. With Talon and the Deadlock Rebels teaming up in the game, it feels like the perfect moment to bring another one of Ashe’s people into the mix. I’m really hoping it’s her!

Earlier descriptions of the character Frankie didn’t quite match what we see in Season 2. While past accounts mentioned dark skin and dyed hair, this version of Frankie has short, curly lavender hair, unlike the long red-pink braid described before. She also doesn’t have the rimless hologlasses that were previously mentioned. This difference in appearance could simply be a new style choice, but it also raises the possibility that this isn’t Frankie at all, and instead a completely new character within the Overwatch universe.

The latest hero seems to have a Helix Security symbol on her outfit, suggesting she might be working against Ashe in the upcoming conflict between Helix and Deadlock.

According to Alec Dawson, a game director at Overwatch, the new hero coming in Season 2 will be a damage-dealing character with fun and engaging ranged attacks. It’s highly likely this hero will use drones during combat, potentially even summoning temporary AI-controlled allies – similar to how Bastion’s Ultimate works in the Mirrorwatch game mode within Overwatch.

The new character is just one of the updates coming in Season 2 of Reign of Talon for Overwatch. Players can also look forward to changes to the Antarctic Peninsula map, Ramattra being playable in the Stadium game mode, new post-match rewards, and a version of the game for the upcoming Switch 2 console. While several other features are planned for future seasons, it’s currently unknown if they’ll be included in Season 2.

  • Stadium Trials
  • Sombra rework
  • Mythic hero skins for Soldier: 76, Illari, Mauga, Ana, and Genji
  • Mythic weapon skins for Genji, Hanzo, and Sojourn
  • Map Voting, Hero Ban, and Competitive Drive improvements

The second season of Overwatch Reign of Talon begins on April 14th. Players can anticipate more details about the update around this time, probably alongside the reveal trailer for the new hero.
