To mark Pac-Man’s 45th anniversary, Google has created a special Google Doodle that lets fans play the classic maze game. Since its debut in 1980, Pac-Man has become a hugely popular gaming franchise with a rich history. Over the years, it’s appeared in countless video games and a TV series, and even inspired the “Pac-Man Fever” craze. Now, Google is joining in the celebration of this major milestone for the beloved Namco game.

To celebrate its 45th anniversary, Pac-Man has been featured in several fun collaborations. Earlier this year, Bandai Namco partnered with Krispy Kreme for Pac-Man-themed donuts. They also made Pac-Man Championship Edition playable in select 2025 Volkswagen cars using the AirConsole app. Now, a new promotion brings a special Pac-Man experience to Google.

As a huge Pac-Man fan, I was so excited to see Google launch its new collaboration! On October 30th, they added a playable Pac-Man Google Doodle right on the homepage. It’s not just the classic game, though! You can play four original levels, and Google teamed up with Bandai Namco to create four brand new “haunted house” mazes. Apparently, each ghost haunts a different maze, which is a really cool touch. The best part? You can only play this special version for a limited time, so I’m definitely getting my fill while I can!

Over its 45-year history, Pac-Man has evolved in many ways, appearing in a wide range of games and styles. While the original maze gameplay has been updated and reimagined in titles like Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man Championship Edition, Pac-Man has also ventured into completely different genres. You can find him in 3D platformers like the Pac-Man World series, and even in the darker action-adventure game Shadow Labyrinth. He’s become a regular character in the Super Smash Bros. series, first appearing in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and later returning in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

To celebrate its 45th anniversary, Pac-Man recently received two new games. Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac is a revamped version of the classic 3D platformer, with updated levels. Shadow Labyrinth offers a fresh take on the original Pac-Man gameplay, blending action-adventure elements with familiar features. These releases are part of a larger celebration honoring the nearly 50-year legacy of this iconic gaming character.
