I recently discovered rakugo, a traditional Japanese comedy that’s been around since the late 1700s. It’s often performed in special theaters, and people describe it as a one-person show – almost like a sitcom where the performer plays every single character! These rakugo artists are incredibly skilled; they only use a paper fan, a small cloth, and their voice to keep the audience entertained. It takes a lot of work to become a well-known rakugo performer, and one of the most interesting shows this season follows a determined young woman trying to make her dream come true.
