Initially, fans had worries when they heard in March that Scopely had bought Pokemon GO, which Niantic had developed for over eight years. However, senior product director Michael Steranka promptly reassured players, highlighting Scopely’s achievements in the mobile gaming market and dismissing concerns about excessive ads or selling of player data to external parties. In an interview following the acquisition announcement, he clarified that Scopely does not trade user data, and the new development team maintains that advertisements would never be suitable for Pokemon GO.
