Insomniac Games first gained recognition for the popular Ratchet & Clank and Spyro the Dragon series. While a new Ratchet & Clank game came out in 2021, the studio has recently become known for developing Marvel games. They started with Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018, followed by a spin-off featuring Miles Morales in 2020, and then a full sequel in 2023. Now, Insomniac is working on a new game starring Marvel’s Wolverine, which is currently scheduled for release in 2026 after being announced back in 2021.

Created by Melbourne studio Reuben Games, Dead Static Drive is a unique experience blending open-world freedom with Lovecraftian horror. Players navigate a terrifying road trip through a twisted, post-apocalyptic version of the 1980s American Southwest. The game’s atmosphere draws inspiration from classic weird fiction authors like T.E.D. Klein, the visual style of photographer William Eggleston, and the films of David Lynch. In terms of gameplay, Dead Static Drive is similar to The Oregon Trail, but with the added threat of terrifying, otherworldly monsters. The story centers around Hearst, who is searching for their parents and trying to uncover the truth behind the world’s collapse.

I was initially intimidated by Arc Raiders, knowing its mix of player-versus-player and player-versus-environment gameplay could lead to quick defeats. This made me play very carefully at first. However, I soon realized something surprising: the game’s environmental challenges are so difficult that many players are simply focused on surviving, just like me. While I’ve occasionally been attacked by other players, Arc Raiders is mostly reminding me that there’s still a lot of good sportsmanship in the gaming world.
