Palworld Coming to Mobile Means One Feature is Needed Now More than Ever

As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed the rise and fall of numerous titles, I must admit that Palworld took me by surprise. It wasn’t until its launch that it truly captured my attention, and now, as a proud owner of multiple platforms, I find myself deeply invested in this delightful monster-taming survival game.

Initially, there wasn’t much excitement surrounding the game Palworld. However, its playful parody of the popular Pokemon franchise from Game Freak attracted the attention of the Pokemon community. Yet, many remained doubtful about this new title. But when Palworld was released on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox Game Pass in January 2024, it quickly gained momentum. Within a month, the game resembling Pokemon sold over 15 million copies on Steam and had more than 10 million players on Xbox consoles. Not only did Palworld become one of the most played games concurrently on Valve’s PC storefront at that time, but it also boasted the most successful launch of any third-party game on Xbox Game Pass to date.

Following its highly successful debut on Xbox and PC, the popular monster-taming survival game Palworld is extending its winning streak by reaching out to more gamers. Not too long ago, this game was launched on PlayStation 5, and t full crossplay compatibility.

Palworld Needs Full Crossplay Support More than Ever Before

Crossplay Support in Palworld is Currently Very Limited

While Palworld does allow crossplay, it’s quite restricted. Xbox and PC players can engage in the game together, but only when specific conditions are met. If a PC gamer wishes to play with their Xbox friends, they must download the Microsoft Store version of the game. Unfortunately, those who own Palworld on Steam cannot play with Xbox or Microsoft Store users. Given that most PC gamers tend to prefer Valve’s store over Microsoft’s, it’s unfortunate and limits the multiplayer potential of the Steam version of Palworld.

In much the same way, the PS5 version of Palworld shares the same issue. Despite being launched over eight months after the game’s initial release, it currently doesn’t support cross-platform play, a feature that is available on Steam. Similarly, the multiplayer server support wasn’t present at launch on Xbox and Microsoft Store, but was added later via an update. Fingers crossed that both dedicated servers and crossplay will be introduced for the PS5 version in due time.

Palworld’s Upcoming Mobile Ports Should Launch With Crossplay Functionality

For the smooth launch of Palworld on mobile devices, it’s crucial that crossplay support is included from the very beginning. Given that Palworld is now making its way onto mobile platforms, it will potentially connect with a much wider player base than ever before. If the multiplayer aspect of the game remains fragmented when these Krafton-developed ports are released, it could hinder the expansion of its player community.

As a gamer eagerly anticipating the mobile release of Palworld, I can’t help but wonder if the mobile version might take a different direction compared to the console and PC releases. If that’s the case, cross-platform play could be a bit tricky. However, I truly hope Pocketpair considers implementing the crossplay feature across iOS and Android platforms. After all, it would be fantastic to adventure in Palworld with my friends, regardless of whether they’re on an iPhone or Android device.
