Palworld Has Surpassed 32 Million Players in Its First Year

In their announcement, the creators of Palworld, known as Pocket Pair, revealed that the game has amassed a staggering 32 million players within its initial year.

On platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the corporation revealed that during its initial year, the game had attracted over 32 million players on Steam, Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, and PlayStation 5.

The game was launched on January 19, 2024, and quickly became a sensation, selling one million copies within its first eight hours. This momentum didn’t slow down; it continued to sell, reaching two million copies in just 24 hours, three million in 40 hours, and eventually eight million in six days.

On January 27th, the multiplayer game Palworld simultaneously hosted a staggering 2,101,867 users on Steam, making it one of the platform’s all-time top player counts, second only to PUBG. By February 22nd, 2024, it was revealed that the game had sold an impressive 15 million copies on Steam and amassed a total of 10 million players on Xbox.

Despite its initial triumph, the game faced criticism post-launch, particularly concerning its characters, called ‘Pals’. Critics argued that these characters were overly similar to, or even plagiarized from, Pokémon.

In September 2024, the allegations appeared significant enough for Nintendo and The Pokémon Company to file a patent infringement lawsuit against Pocketpair.

By September 2024, the accusations seemed substantial, leading Nintendo and The Pokémon Company to sue Pocketpair for patent violations.
