Palworld’s Terraria Crossover Weapon is Perfectly Ridiculous

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the fusion of Palworld and Terraria is a match made in gaming heaven. The Meowmere Sword, a testament to both games’ absurdity, has found its rightful place in this wild adventure.

2024 saw the release of one of the most peculiar and captivating video games titled Palworld. Despite the legal disputes between Pocketpair and Nintendo regarding the apparent similarities to Pokémon, Palworld transcends being just a copycat game. Its unique combination of survival game fundamentals and unbridled madness sets it apart as one of the most outlandishly entertaining and memorable games in terms of its absurdity and impact.

Perhaps Teraria, Re-Logic’s classic 2011 survival game, could compete with Palworld on this specific front, however. Mixing survival and action game fundamentals with dungeon-crawling gameplay, base building, and sandbox exploration, Terraria was in a league of its own when it first arrived on the scene nearly fifteen years ago, and it’s still going strong with regular updates that expand and polish its world. It certainly shares a bit of DNA with Palworld, not just as a survival game, but also as one deeply rooted in absurdity, as Terraria features such over-the-top weaponry as the Bananarang, Megashark, and Slap Hand. But one particularly notable piece of gear from Terarria has made its way to Palworld, honoring both games’ shared love for the farcical.

Terraria’s Meowmere Sword and Palworld Are a Match Made in Heaven

With the Feybreak update rolled out on December 23, the Meowmere Sword is now craftable by any Palworld player who has attained a technology level of at least 30. By utilizing Predator Cores, palladium, ingots, and coal, players can acquire this versatile weapon for combat, boasting both long and short-range capabilities. The Meowmere Sword is truly an impressive sight on the battlefield.

In a similar fashion to its character in Terraria, Meowmere stands out due to its unique feature of firing spectral cat faces that leave a rainbow trail, which can be utilized in both close combat and from a distance. However, what truly sets it apart is its absurdity. It’s reminiscent of the eccentric humor prevalent in early 2010s internet culture, where memes reigned supreme, with icons like Nyan Cat being their faithful followers. In many aspects, Palworld shares similarities with this bygone era of online humor, as its blend of Pokemon-like creatures and firearms creates a whimsical, unconventional gaming environment. Therefore, merging these two IPs, with Meowmere serving as the embodiment of their fusion, seems fitting.

Meowmere May Be the Best Terraria Item in Palworld, but It Doesn’t Need To Be the Last

At its essence, Palworld revolves around placing animals in unusual scenarios, which forms the basis of its humor. This is why the Meowmere Sword aligns perfectly with the game, as it too relies on a humorous concept. In simpler terms, it’s easy to understand why they selected the Meowmere Sword as a representative for these games’ bond, symbolizing their common identity and cultural influence.

Perhaps the collaboration between Meowmere and Terraria-Palworld could simply mark the start of an interesting partnership. One advantage of a game that’s completely outlandish is that the developers have the liberty to incorporate a wide variety of elements without worrying too much about maintaining a consistent tone. This means they can exclude more serious or emotionally charged narratives, but in return, they can add virtually anything they desire. Consequently, weapons from Terraria like the Fruitcake Chakram or Egg Cannon, though not directly linked to Palworld’s theme as the Meowmere is, could potentially be incorporated into the game if both parties agree to do so.

Concurrently, a degree of caution might be necessary since neither Pocketpair nor Re-Logic probably don’t want Palworld to be perceived as Terraria 2.0. However, it could be possible for some animal-themed items such as The Bee’s Knees or the Megashark to appear in Palworld, considering their compatibility with its theme. Yet, this might not bode well for Palworld’s image from PETA’s perspective.
