Last week, Netflix announced plans to buy Warner Bros. Discovery for $82.7 billion, a move that would significantly expand its dominance in the streaming market. However, Paramount has responded with a competing offer, criticizing Netflix’s bid as inadequate.
As a huge fan of both companies, I’m really hoping Paramount’s offer goes through! They’re offering $30 a share, which is better than Netflix’s $27.75. More importantly, Paramount wants to keep Warner Bros. Discovery together as one company, while the Netflix deal would break it up. If Paramount wins, they’ll be buying the whole thing – everything! That’s what I’m rooting for.
Will Paramount or Netflix Buy Warner Bros. Discovery?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has made an unsolicited offer after Netflix announced its plans regarding Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount CEO David Ellison stated:
Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders should have the chance to review our offer to buy all their company shares with cash.
We’ve made a public offer that’s the same generous deal we previously presented to the Warner Bros. Discovery Board. We’re confident it’s a better option because it offers more value and a faster, more reliable path to completion. We’re concerned the Board is considering a less favorable deal that would give shareholders a combination of cash and stock, expose them to risks related to the value of their cable business, and face a difficult regulatory review.
We’re reaching out to shareholders directly so they can make the best decision for themselves and potentially get the highest possible return on their investment.
The Hollywood Reporter expects a long and complex battle between Paramount and Netflix as they compete to buy Warner Bros. Discovery.
Surprisingly, it came out that Paramount created a website called ‘StrongerHollywood’ specifically to challenge Netflix and demonstrate that Paramount’s approach would benefit the industry as a whole.
The company that ultimately acquires Warner Bros.’ gaming assets will control popular studios like Avalanche, NetherRealm, Rocksteady, and TT Games, along with all of WB Games.
