Summary
- Patapon 3 may be coming to PlayStation Plus Premium.
- The 2011 title is the only entry in Japan Studio’s trilogy of rhythm-based games that’s still confined to the PSP as of February 2025.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled by the rumors swirling around that the exclusive PSP gem, Patapon 3, might soon find its way onto PlayStation Plus Premium! If these leaks are anything to go by, members of the top-tier PS Plus family could potentially start drumming and marching with the Patapons as early as February 2025. Here’s to hoping these whispers become reality!
The Patapon series is a set of games centered around rhythm, once created by Sony’s Japan Studio before its merger with Team Asobi (known for Astro Bot) and other SIE divisions in April 2021. This franchise includes three games that initially launched as PlayStation Portable exclusives between 2007 and 2011. The original Patapon was upgraded and moved to the PS4 in August 2017, while its sequel joined it in January 2020.
It appears that the last installment of the popular game series, Patapon, may soon be available on platforms beyond the PSP. This assumption arises from an update Sony Japan has recently issued for Patapon 3, which was spotted by Gematsu. On the same day as Sony’s announcement of January 2025 PS Plus Premium games, this 1.6GB update was released. The update’s description mentions only “general bug fixes,” a rare occurrence for single-player games that are over a decade old – unless they are gearing up for a return.
Patapon 3 Could Be Confirmed for PS Plus Premium This Week
Sony typically unveils new titles for its PS Plus Extra and Premium services on Wednesdays that fall either just before the second or third Tuesday of each month. Following this pattern, we can expect the next round of additions to their subscription service to be announced tomorrow, February 12th. If it’s true that Patapon 3 is being updated for Sony’s home consoles, its PS Plus-exclusive version might very well be unveiled on this date. As with all other ports of first-party PSP games, the rumored remaster of Patapon 3 is likely to be playable on the latest versions of PlayStation consoles. This practice will carry on until at least January 2026, when PS Plus is expected to cease offering a continuous stream of PS4 games.
Patapon Fans Potentially Have Two Games to Look Forward to in 2025
Apart from anticipating a possible console port of “Patapon 3” this year, fans of Japan Studio’s rhythm game series also have something else exciting to look forward to: a spiritual successor titled “Ratatan.” Scheduled for release in April 2025, this new game shares similarities with “Patapon,” and will be available on multiple platforms such as PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC from the very first day.
As a gaming enthusiast, if Patapon 3 lands in this month’s PS Plus Premium collection, I’m expecting it to drop on their subscription service around the third Tuesday of the month – that’d be February 18th for us. There’s also buzz about Ape Escape 3 making an appearance soon in the classics section of PS Plus Premium.
