Ratatan Comes To Steam Early Access In July

Hiroyuki Kotani, the mastermind behind both Patapon and Ratatan, wrapped up his presentation with the exciting news that Ratatan will be available for early access starting on July 25, 2025.

In contrast to Patapon’s fixed movements, Ratatan allows players to directly command the actions of its main character. The unique aspect here is that the Cobun minions can be directed, similar to Pikmin, and used to execute specific abilities during battles.

In this game, the rhythm element arises from the combat system, where you must enter commands at specific times to make Cobun execute special moves. These moves are crucial for defeating massive groups of monsters and colossal boss creatures.

As a gamer, I’d say Ratatan has a unique twist – it incorporates roguelike mechanics where you can enhance your character by buying cards and items that amplify attacks and offer persistent boosts. It feels more like Astral Ascent than the next step in the Patapon series.

Remarkably, the unusual game known as Patapon originally captivated many gamers. Incredibly, these dedicated fans are now receiving a follow-up that seems to enhance its unique concept, which is even more exciting given that the game’s original creator is involved in its development.
