Path of Exile 2: How To Bind Skills & Equip Skill Gems

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating the labyrinthine world of Path of Exile, I can confidently say that the upcoming sequel, Path of Exile 2, has me buzzing with excitement. The new Skill System, where abilities and skills come from Skill Gems, is a refreshing twist that adds a layer of complexity to the game that I can’t wait to delve into.

In Path of Exile 2, you acquire abilities and skills not directly from your armor, but from items known as Skill Gems that can be placed into a distinct menu. To gain access to these skills in PoE 2, you’ll find Uncut Skill Gems (and Uncut Support Gems) dropped by monsters and chests, or earned from certain quests. Once you’ve used an Uncut Skill Gem and selected a skill to unlock, a Skill Gem representing that ability will be added to your inventory for you to use.

After that, you should add the skill to your Skills List, followed by assigning it to your action key, so you can utilize it. How to Open the PoE 2 Skill Menu

To view and access all your active skills, hit the ‘G’ key on your keyboard. For console users, open up the character menu, navigate to the Skills section. In this interface, you’ll find your equipped Skill Gems organized in distinct rows with at least two Support Gem slots situated beside them.

How To Bind Skills In Path of Exile 2 (PC/WASD)

Upon acquiring a Skill Gem, press the ‘G’ key to access your Skills Menu and the ‘I’ key for your Inventory. The Inventory will appear on the right side while the Skills screen opens on the left side.

To use your Skill Gem, simply click on it (alternatively, you can right-click to open the Skill Menu directly), then drag it into one of the empty slots located at the far left side. Note that the smaller sockets to the right of each entry are for Support Gems, not Skill Gems.

Move the Skill Stone you prefer into the larger socket on the left side. Then, place it there to incorporate it into your skills. The Stone will be secured, and a tiny symbol will show up over the Skill Stone itself.

From here, there are two ways to equip and bind a new skill: either drag this Icon to your action bar and drop it onto the key you want to bind it to, or left-click a slot on your action bar to bind your new Path of Exile 2 skill.

  • If you drop the skill from your Skill Menu to your action bar, it will automatically appear and your character will cast it when you press the associated binding.
  • If you left-click the button on your action bar to choose a skill, hover over each Skill that appears to make sure you select the correct one, then left-click your choice to bind it to that button.

To reattach an already learned ability, you can use the same approach. Simply pick up the ability icon from the Skills Menu and move it to your preferred location on the action bar, or choose a button on your action bar, and then set the abilities using the menu that appears when you click on it.

How To Bind New Skills In Path of Exile 2 (Console)

Console players have a relatively straightforward time when it comes to equipping and binding new Skill Gems in Path of Exile 2. From your Inventory, select your Skill Gem and press X (Xbox) or Circle (PlayStation). This will automatically open up the Skill Menu and automatically equip it into your current Skill list.

As soon as I hit X or Circle to add a Skill Gem, I’m prompted to choose where I want to assign my freshly acquired skill. A transparent overlay pops up showing all my available slots. All I have to do is select the button I prefer for casting the new ability, and then I get taken back to the Skill Screen.

In Path of Exile 2 for console users, you can change the keybindings for skills by navigating to the Skill Menu, finding the ability you’d like to reassign, and then press X or Circle to open the input overlay selection screen. After that, select your preferred input to bind the skill with it.
