Path of Exile 2: Weapon Set Points, Explained

Path of Exile 2: Weapon Set Points, Explained

As a seasoned Path of Exile veteran with countless hours spent traversing Wraeclast’s treacherous landscapes, I must say the introduction of Weapon Set Points in PoE 2 has certainly added an exciting layer of complexity to the game.

When planning your Path of Exile 2 character build, it’s important to keep in mind that Weapon Set Points bring an extra layer of complexity and personalization. While players usually gain Passive Skill Points as they level up, Weapon Set Points can be obtained through alternative methods. These points are crucial for modifying a build when switching between various weapon types.

In “Path of Exile 2”, Weapon Set Points function similarly to Skill Points, but they become active only when you wield one of your two designated weapon types. This guide delves into the intricacies of the updated Weapon Set Points system and provides strategies on how to accumulate more Weapon Set Points in “Path of Exile 2”, thereby expanding your Passive Skill tree for tailored scenarios.

What Are Weapon Set Points?

In the Passive Abilities Tree, you have the ability to allocate points for general Passive Abilities that are continuously active, while Weapon Skill Points let you tailor distinct Passive Ability configurations for various weapons you choose to wield.

In Path of Exile 2, you’ll have the ability to carry two weapons at once and quickly switch between them, with each swap taking roughly half a second. To manage your secondary weapon, look for the tab labeled “II” (indicating two weapons) above your character’s main weapon slot in your inventory on the left side. You can then drop another weapon into this empty slot to store it as a backup weapon.

In Path of Exile 2, when a player changes their weapon, the Weapon Set Points they’ve assigned to each weapon will activate simultaneously with their base Passive Skill Points, which influence both sets of weapons.

As a fan, I find an effective approach to interact with this system is by utilizing my routine Skill points to construct a lengthy path connecting multiple Significant node clusters. Then, using Weapon Set Points, I specialize into these clusters for specific weaponry. For instance, when specializing for a Crossbow build, I’d veer off into Passives that boost Projectiles, whereas a backup Mace setup would lead me towards more defensive and melee-focused skills.

Changing between these two weapon types will trigger the activation and deactivation of your Weapon Set Skills. This means that each Weapon Set has its own distinct passive abilities that become active only when you are holding that specific weapon.

How To Allocate Weapon Set Points

In the Passive Skill Tree, there’s a small box located at the top-right corner with two options for each Weapon Set – “Primary Weapon Set” and “Secondary Weapon Set”. As you earn Weapon Set Points in Path of Exile 2, players can choose to assign a specific number of these points to either one of these two Sets.

When choosing each set, assign Weapon Set Experience to your Active Skill Chart just as you would with common Passive Skills. Observe the distinct colors of the nodes that your Weapon Set Skill points trace out as they diverge from your usual Passive Skill path.

For each weapon set, you’ll work on them independently without transferring Weapon Set Points between them. In other words, if you earn two Weapon Set Points, each of your primary and secondary weapon sets will receive separate bonuses, not one point for each set. Instead, both sets will have double the Passive Skill Points to allocate.

Each weapon set has a specified amount of Spendable Points indicated in parentheses next to its name, with the current number spent and the total available shown. For example: (3/5) indicates that 3 points have been used out of a total of 5 available for that particular set.

Following your selections, you can toggle between your weapons to observe how the Passive Skill Tree adjusts itself, incorporating Weapon Set Points for each individual weapon. Refunding Weapon Set Points in Path of Exile 2 can be done following the same steps as refunding regular Skill Points.

How To Get More Weapon Set Points In PoE 2

To amass additional Weapon Set Points in Path of Exile 2, players need to acquire an item known as the Book of Specialization. Upon consumption, this item awards twice the number of Weapon Set Points for each set (specifically, 2x). These unique consumables can be obtained through two means: defeating Bosses or completing specific quests.

In each Act, there’s a possibility that either the main or mini-boss might yield a Book of Specialization; however, the probability for both types of bosses is quite low. It seems like the main Act bosses have a slightly higher likelihood of dropping a Book of Specialization compared to their mini counterparts.

In the game “Path of Exile“, you can acquire a “Book of Specialization” as a reward for finishing specific Quests. When you accept a Quest, look below the quest giver’s name for the Quest Rewards. If a Book of Specialization is included in these rewards, you’ll receive double Weapon Set Points to spend upon completing that particular Quest.
