Payday 3 Shockingly Collaborates With Hotline Miami

Summary

  • Hotline Miami collaboration enhances Payday 3 gameplay with Jacket Character Pack on February 3.
  • There was a previous Hotline Miami collaboration with Payday 2 in 2014.

Starbreeze Studios has unveiled an unexpected partnership between the indie game from 2012, “Hotline Miami,” and the upcoming title, “Payday 3.” Although these series have worked together before, it’s been a while since “Hotline Miami” was in the spotlight, making its appearance in “Payday 3” a delightful surprise.

As a devoted fan of the Payday series, I must admit that the release of Payday 3 has been quite a rollercoaster ride. Upon its launch, it was met with an extremely mixed reaction and didn’t seem to offer as much content as its predecessor, leaving many of us questioning if it was worth moving on from Payday 2 at all. However, for a brief period in 2024, Payday 3 managed to climb up Steam reviews to “Mostly Positive,” although that momentum has since waned and the game is now back to being rated “Mixed.” Despite not meeting the critical or commercial expectations, Starbreeze Studios has persisted in working on Payday 3, showing their commitment to this beloved franchise.

A freshly unveiled online trailer has revealed that the highly anticipated game, Payday 3, will feature a collaboration with Hotline Miami. This exciting team-up brings one of the finest indie games ever created into the realm of the heist shooter. The collaboration introduces a new character pack, enabling players to assume the role of the mute protagonist, Jacket. Additionally, this pack includes an array of newly introduced weapons for the game. One of these new Overkill Weapons is named Sociopath and bears a striking resemblance to the baseball bat wielded by Jacket in Hotline Miami. The Jacket Character Pack is slated for release on February 3, becoming available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC editions of Payday 3.

Payday 3 is Getting a Hotline Miami Collaboration on February 3

Interestingly, these two have worked together before. A DLC for “Payday 2” titled “Hotline Miami” was launched in 2014. Notably, this collaboration occurred when the initial game was still generating buzz and its sequel was yet to be released. Since then, it’s been nearly a decade since a new “Hotline Miami” game has come out, and while it remains fantastic, its impact is certainly less potent than it once was. Given this, it’s quite unexpected that we’re seeing this collaboration now. Nonetheless, it’s a pleasant surprise – more “Hotline Miami” is always welcome!

It’s uncertain what the future may bring for Payday 3. The gaming community still recognizes its brand, but it has clearly been affected by reactions towards the upcoming release. At the end of 2024, it was disclosed that Payday 3 will receive reduced funding in the future, a concerning development for enthusiasts. Despite Starbreeze Studios’ assurance that they can deliver worthwhile content to gamers, they face a daunting path ahead if they aim to meet the standards set by its predecessor.
