It’s becoming increasingly expensive for people to buy PC RAM. What used to be one of the most affordable components for building a computer is now, in some cases, costing more than a new graphics card.
Just a few weeks ago, TopMob noted that RAM prices had jumped as much as 250%. Now, as of mid-December, those prices seem relatively low. Since November 26th, PC RAM prices have increased by an average of another 25%. In fact, some RAM, like a 64GB pack, has seen price hikes of 50% or even more.
This is making newer graphics cards, like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series and AMD Radeon RX 9000 series, more affordable. For instance, you can find an ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 for around $550, and an ASRock Radeon RX 9070 XT for about $600. Even a higher-end RTX 5070 Ti, averaging $750, costs less than some 64GB memory kits, such as the Corsair Vengeance.
Here’s a price comparison from November 1st to November 26th, and then to December 11th. Prices have consistently increased, and experts predict this trend will continue. The situation has become so severe that some affordable brands are closing down to prioritize serving the large AI companies driving these price hikes.

TopMob has contacted several PC component manufacturers to ask about solutions for customers and whether they plan to address the limited availability of parts. Unfortunately, as of today, none of those companies have responded with information.
