The game Peak has been given an upgrade, labeled as Patch 1.28.a, which includes numerous bug fixes, balance adjustments, and a feature that players have been asking for quite some time in terms of accessibility. This update continues the regular and consistent support provided to the indie sensation Peak by developer Aggro Crab.
In the June launch on Steam, the indie game titled “Peak” has emerged as an unexpected smash hit in 2025. With sales exceeding 10 million copies by July, it outperformed many well-known AAA titles. The widespread appeal of “Peak” is due to its unique combination of engaging cooperative exploration, tough navigation elements, and consistent developer assistance.
After the significant update “Mesa” was rolled out for the game Peak last month, Aggro Crab has now released Patch 1.28.a. The standout feature in this patch is the implementation of a Color Blindness Mode, a request from players since the initial launch of Peak. This new setting provides patterns on the colored berries within Peak, thereby enhancing their visibility for players suffering from different types of color blindness. During gameplay, especially during ascents in Peak, collecting resources and monitoring items are crucial tasks, so the addition of this Color Blindness Mode notably improves accessibility.

Additionally, version 1.28.a of Peak brings numerous balance improvements and bug fixes. For instance, the frequency of Tornadoes, one of Peak’s natural hazards, has been altered: the initial wait time before a tornado appears has been shortened, while the minimum time between their spawns has been extended. The notoriously challenging Tornado Hell biome variant in Peak is also less prevalent now. Nest Eggs now have an appropriate weight, and backpacks have benefited from updated physics to minimize unintentional losses. On the bug-fixing side, significant longstanding issues in Peak such as the inability to earn the Endurance Badge, freezes caused by tornadoes, and peculiarities in NPC pathfinding have all been addressed.

Although Patch 1.28.a may not be as significant as Peak’s Mesa Update, the inclusion of Color Blindness Mode is still highly appreciated. By making the game more accessible, a wider range of players are encouraged to experiment with Peak, and Aggro Crab’s efforts in rectifying bothersome bugs and ensuring fair gameplay balance continue to make the game inviting for newcomers and seasoned players alike.
Peak Update 1.28.a Full Patch Notes
Features
- Color Blindness Mode: Adds patterns to differently-colored berries to further differentiate them.
Balance
- Reduced the maximum time before the first tornado can spawn.
- Slightly increased the minimum time before a tornado can spawn again.
- Slightly reduced the commonness of the “Tornado Hell” biome variant.
- It is now way less likely that the maze is blocked after entering the TOMB.
- Nest Eggs now weigh more to match the weight of the Egg inside.
Major Fixes
- Fixed an issue where players would be unable to obtain the Endurance Badge.
- Fixed an issue where The Scoutmaster couldn’t climb walls. This went unnoticed for a while because he can jump pretty high, but now he should be even scarier.
- Fixed an issue where Scrolls and Berrynanas and other objects that change form when used would drop the new item instead of putting it in your hands.
- Fixed a potential issue where playing a vanilla game after previously having visual mods installed (or playing with a modded player while not having their same mods installed) could cause a variety of visual and functionality issues. This could include, but was not limited to, players permanently showing up as a default skin in the endgame screen even if not wearing modded cosmetics, as well as the endgame report breaking entirely and preventing certain achievements from being obtained.
- Fixed an issue where, rarely, getting caught in a tornado would cause the game to freeze on the loading screen upon failing a run.
- Backpack has new physics that should prevent more cases where people would lose their backpack.
Minor Fixes
- Fixed an issue where the Magic Bugle and Scoutmaster’s Bugle play at a strangely low volume.
- The Guidebook renders at a higher resolution if you set the Render Scale to low.
- Fixed an issue where placing a Scout Cannon atop a jellyfish could cause a softlock.
- A missing treetop has been added to a branch on the giant tree.
- Removed the annoying flicker on the endgame countdown.
- Removed Scoutmaster grain effect in Photosensitive Mode.
- Rainbow stamina bar is now slower in Photosensitive Mode.
- Fixed an issue where it said “Move” instead of “Interact” on a prompt in the Controls page.
