For fans eagerly anticipating another encounter with Ellie and Joel in “The Last of Us” Season 2, the wait won’t last much longer. In a few short weeks, this post-apocalyptic series will make its comeback to our screens, ready to give viewers another dose of terror. However, this time around, the story promises to push the limits for Ellie and Joel more than ever before, delving into darker themes. New characters joining the cast include Abby Anderson, Dina, and Gail, with Catherine O’Hara from “Schitt’s Creek” portraying Gail, a therapist living in Jackson, who is confirmed to be Eugene’s wife.
In Season 2 of “The Last of Us,” certain parts of the game will be altered, while also introducing new characters such as Eugene Linden, portrayed by Joe Pantoliano, who was not present in the original game but only referenced in its sequel. This isn’t unprecedented for HBO’s series, as in Season One, modifications were made to characters like Bill and Frank, with Bill having a smaller role in the initial Naughty Dog game and Frank not appearing physically at all. As more details about Season 2 emerge, which includes a major battle at Jackson and the development of the virus involving airborne spores, the cast of the HBO show has provided a lighter, more heartwarming moment for Pedro Pascal’s character, Joel, before the impending ominous storm.
The Last of Us Season 2 Cast Celebrate Pedro Pascal’s Birthday in the Most Wholesome Way

At X/Twitter, The Last of Us news shared that Bella Ramsey (Ellie), along with Gabriel Luna (Tommy), Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), Young Mazino (Jesse), and Isabela Merced (Dina) from The Last of Us Season 2, celebrated Pedro Pascal’s birthday during their Season 2 premiere in Sydney, Australia. Even though Pedro wasn’t physically present with the cast on stage, they managed to capture the special moment on video to send to him as a token of their admiration on his birthday.
The current state of the series is quite different from the sorrow and distress fans have been experiencing lately, with a touching scene between characters before the upcoming hardships of Season 2 in about three weeks. Lately, Pascal has disclosed that he slipped into an “unwholesome mental state” while portraying Joel in The Last of Us Season 2.
In an even more touching development for the actor, the title of the first episode in Season 2 of “The Last of Us” was recently unveiled, leaving some fans speculating that Joel might leave the series earlier than anticipated. Although it appears that all actors for Season 2 have been disclosed, a recent buzz hints at a prominent Hollywood figure yet to be disclosed who will portray an as-yet-unrevealed character. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait much longer to learn more as “The Last of Us” Season 2 is set to debut on HBO on April 13, 2025.
