In 2026, the Persona series will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Along with new merchandise, recent changes to trademarks hint that remakes of classic Persona games might be announced soon.
As a Persona fan, I’m super excited Atlus is bringing Persona 3 to new consoles, and now Persona 4 is getting a remake in 2025! It’s cool they’re revisiting the older games. Honestly, Persona 5 still feels pretty fresh, so a remake isn’t happening anytime soon. That leaves the very first Persona and Persona 2, plus all the spin-offs. And let’s not forget the main Shin Megami Tensei series – there are so many games in that franchise that really need a modern update!
It looks like something is happening with the original Persona games. An official page for Persona’s 30th anniversary merchandise recently appeared on Amazon, and fans have spotted some unusual activity surrounding the older titles.
Persona 1 & 2 Remakes/Remasters Could Be On The Way

The latest Persona merchandise now labels the original game as ‘Persona 1 Origins’ and the second and third games as ‘Persona 2 Duality.’ These names haven’t been used for these games before, even in previous releases like the ones for the PlayStation Portable.
This rebranding might hint at new versions of the classic Persona games, possibly released to celebrate an anniversary. The first Persona game and its sequel deserve updated remakes for current gaming systems, and these could be announced alongside Persona 6, which has been rumored for a while.
The latest Persona merchandise now calls the original game ‘Persona 1 Origins’ and the two Persona 2 games ‘Persona 2 Duality’.
The updated terms hint at a larger anniversary celebration than just re-releasing the original Persona game on PlayStation Network or as a free PlayStation Plus title. While bringing back the first game is straightforward, the sequel presents more challenges. The original Persona 2: Innocent Sin was never translated for Western audiences, though a version for the PSP was. However, the second game, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, was localized, but not for the PSP.

The first Persona games started as interesting side stories to the Shin Megami Tensei series, but they don’t quite compare to Persona 3, 4, and 5. It would be great to see those earlier games completely remade, which could introduce them to a new audience and show how they paved the way for the more popular titles.
