Currently, the status of the ‘Persona’ series appears uncertain as Atlus has been hinting at ‘Persona 6’ for several years without any confirmed release. This seems to be due to the original ‘Persona’ team breaking up to focus on ‘Persona 3 Reload’, developed by P-Studio, and ‘Metaphor: ReFantazio’, created by Studio Zero. While ‘Metaphor’ offered a fresh perspective on typical series elements, ‘Persona 3 Reload’ served to enhance a beloved title. ‘Persona 5: The Phantom X’ is set for release on mobile and PC in certain regions, but that’s the only upcoming ‘Persona’ project known at this time.
It appears that all known “Persona” projects ended rather recently, and then on March 20, 2025, a web domain, p4re.jp, was registered, which was pointed out by the “Persona” YouTuber @ScrambledFaz. This registration suggests that a remake of “Persona 4” might be underway. Faz and other “Persona” enthusiasts use the registration of p3re.jp on March 15, 2023, as evidence, since it happened three months before the announcement of “Persona 3 Reload.” Given that “P3R” was launched in February 2024, and considering Atlus’s tendency to refine its development pipeline through previous projects, there’s a strong likelihood that “Persona 4” was intended to be released after “Persona 3”.
The Time Has Come For A Persona 4 Remake
Persona 3 Reload Paved The Way For Persona 4’s Return
Beyond mirroring the countdown to the unveiling of Persona 3 Reload at the June 2023 Xbox event, there’s a definite sense that a new version of Persona 4 could be on its way. The Persona series made a significant leap past its Shin Megami Tensei roots when it came to popularity as an RPG franchise, with Persona 3 and 4. While fans of earlier games like 1 and 2 might hope for their own remakes, P3 and P4, given their age, are prime candidates for direct updates on current hardware. As such, it seems likely that they’d be polished up for modern audiences as well.
In January 2023, revamped versions of “Persona 3 Portable” and “Persona 4 Golden” were launched across all platforms, with the latter making its PC debut in 2020 ahead of time. The close timing between the release of “Persona 3 Portable” (P3P) and the announcement of “Persona 3 Royal” (P3R) gave the impression that Persona 3 was having a year in the limelight, and this was further extended when an extra story mode from “Persona 3 FES”, titled The Answer, was released as downloadable content in September 2024. Now it’s “Persona 4″‘s turn to receive similar treatment, although its Golden edition content might not be as easily available for separate purchase as DLC.
Persona 4’s Remake Could Follow The Same Trail P3R Blazed
If the p4re.jp website appears to be an announcement for a potential remake of “Persona 4,” either using the “Reload” title or another term starting with “Re-,” it’s likely that we’ll see this announcement in June 2025. Historically, late May has marked the beginning of the summer showcase season, and both Atlus and Sega have a tendency to unveil their games at Xbox events during recent years. Whether “Persona 4” needs a remake is a separate question, but considering how well “Persona 3 Reload” was received, it could stand to benefit from one.
What A Persona 4 Remake Can Learn From Persona 3 Reload
A potential improvement for the remake of “Persona 4” is that it might establish itself as the ultimate edition if it incorporates fresh features and refinements similar to what was done with “Persona 3 Reload.” The combat system in “P4” could incorporate the Shift mechanism from “P3R” and its Theurgy ultimate attacks. Additionally, new portraits, voice lines both during and outside of battles would harmonize well with the upgraded models. It’s also suggested that any unvoiced scenes from previous versions of “Persona 4” should be updated in this remake. If the remake of “Persona 4” adopts the additional character side-stories and other activities from “Persona 3 Reload,” it could once again become a must-play RPG for both new and seasoned players.
