Persona 4 Revival Wish List

As a huge Persona fan, I’m so excited that Persona 4 is getting a full revival! It’s amazing to think a new generation will get to experience that incredible small-town mystery. From what Sega and Atlus have shown, it looks like they’re rebuilding the whole game with the beautiful art style we all loved in Persona 5. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the rumors are true and we’ll get a really good look at it during the Xbox Partner Preview – I can’t wait to see more!

It’s been almost twenty years since players first explored the world of Persona 4 on the PlayStation 2. While the enhanced ‘Golden’ edition kept the game popular on the Vita and PC, it was still based on the original 2008 release. Now, after the successful remake of Persona 3 Reload showed there’s strong demand for complete overhauls, the developers are giving the town of Inaba the same treatment with a full remake of Persona 4.

Persona 4 Golden is being completely rebuilt for modern platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, promising a visually stunning experience. The developers are holding back some surprises, but they’ve hinted at new features and improvements that could significantly enhance this beloved JRPG.

Unique Palace-Style Dungeons…

The first Persona 4 game used dungeons made up of repetitive, randomly generated hallways. A great way to improve this would be to design each area by hand, creating unique layouts like the Palaces in Persona 5. These areas should feel special and reveal details about the character connected to them through interesting puzzles and design. Adding save points throughout each area would also make the game more enjoyable, letting players take breaks without losing too much progress.

With Modernized Combat and Damage Types

The battle system in the original Persona 4 was good, but it could be improved to feel more impactful with modern updates. Introducing new damage types like Nuclear and Psychic would give players more options when building their teams and fighting bosses. A feature like Baton Pass or Shift would also be great, letting players create longer, more exciting combos after exploiting enemy weaknesses. Finally, adding flashy special attacks – similar to Theurgy skills or dual-character Showtime moves – would make battles more visually impressive than they were in the original game.

And Status Ailments and Technicals

The Technical Damage system, a great addition to newer games in the series, would be a fantastic feature for Persona 4 Revival. Right now, status effects like Sleep or Burn don’t always feel useful because they aren’t very effective. Adding Technical combos would give players a reason to inflict these ailments, letting them set up powerful follow-up attacks. This would make all of a Persona’s skills feel valuable, instead of just relying on direct elemental damage.

Expanded Playable Roster and Social Features

Fans love the main characters in Persona 4 and would like to see more of them become playable in the game. Some popular suggestions include Marie, who could join the team after a certain point in the story, or characters like the Mysterious Fox and Naoki, Saki’s brother. Adding these characters with their own unique abilities and Personas would make the game even more fun to play again and again.

Dynamic Social Link Tracking

It used to be frustrating to figure out which friends were available each day in the original game. Improving the social link system in Persona 4 Revival could be as simple as giving the player a smartphone app that shows where everyone is and if they’re ready to deepen their relationship. This would save players time they’d otherwise spend looking at guides or running around town, and let them focus on enjoying the story and characters.

More Mini-Games and Part-Time Jobs

Inaba, while a cozy town, could benefit from more activities. Allowing the player character to get a part-time job at Junes Department Store would be a great addition. It would let players explore the store more thoroughly and provide opportunities to interact with Yosuke from Persona 4 during work. Adding an arcade would also be a fun way to improve social stats, and a revamped fishing mini-game with smoother controls would be a welcome improvement over the original.

Mid-Battle Party Swapping

When you have more teammates unlocked in Persona 4, it can feel limiting to be stuck with the same three characters throughout an entire dungeon. Letting players switch party members during battles – like in later Persona games – would be a big improvement. This would allow you to quickly adjust to enemy weaknesses or protect a weakened character without having to leave the dungeon. It would also make the whole team feel more useful and involved in the action, instead of just watching from the sidelines.

Persona Traits and Theurgy

To really make each character feel distinct, the remake should include a Traits system, giving everyone a unique passive ability – like lower skill costs or a better chance of landing a critical hit. Also, adding the Theurgy/Therapy system from Persona 3 Reload would give each teammate a powerful, visually impressive ultimate move that could be a game-changer in tough boss battles. Since strategy is key to the Persona series, these features would be a natural fit for the game.

Simplified Information Gathering

As a huge fan of Persona 4, I always felt like finding the next dungeon could be a little slow. You’d have to run around town and ask a bunch of people for hints, which got kinda repetitive. It would be amazing if they could make it smoother – maybe with a cool cutscene that plays out like you’re actually investigating the mystery! That way, the story would keep moving at a great pace without us having to go through tons of the same conversations just to figure out where to go next.

New Game Plus Enhancements

After completing a lengthy JRPG like the Persona series, players often want to start a new game while keeping the powerful items and equipment they’ve already earned. It’s a popular request for remakes to include a New Game Plus mode where players can carry over their endgame gear, avoiding repetitive grinding. This feature would make challenging optional content more approachable and encourage players to replay the game for different outcomes or to complete all side quests and character interactions.

Optional Super Bosses

Many fans have wished for special battles against characters from other Persona games, and this remake could deliver. Imagine fighting Joker or Makoto Yuki as secret, challenging bosses unlocked later in the game! The story could explain these encounters as strange events happening within the TV world, offering incredibly difficult fights. This would be a fantastic way to celebrate the entire Persona franchise and reward longtime players with a truly special experience.
