Persona 5 Phantom X Launches Surprisingly Soon, Could Atlus Reveal Big Future Plans

The upcoming game titled Persona 5: The Phantom X sets itself apart from other games under Atlus’ brand. To begin with, it’s not being developed by P-Studio, the team responsible for managing the overall Persona series, but rather by Perfect World Games, a Chinese company renowned for creating games-as-a-service titles. This game, frequently abbreviated as P5X, is unique within the Persona series as it operates on a live service model and functions as a mobile gacha game. In simpler terms, while it’s free to play, it includes microtransactions, an aspect that has not been present in previous mainline installments of the Persona series.

Although Persona 5: The Phantom X has been available for over a year, it’s yet to be fully released. A beta test of the game was rolled out in specific Asian regions such as China, South Korea, and Taiwan for PC, iOS, and Android devices. However, it hasn’t been globally launched, with Atlus and Perfect World Games being vague about the situation. Nevertheless, there has been a confirmation this week that Persona 5: The Phantom X will reach the Western markets on June 26, 2025, following several months of speculation and leaks.

Atlus’ Release Schedule Will Be Empty When P5X and RAIDOU Remastered Come Out Next Month

It’s quite unexpected that “Persona 5: The Phantom X” is arriving so swiftly, as many believed its global release was still a few months off due to its lack of Japanese launch. However, it’s been revealed that not only will the game be released concurrently in Japan and the West, but it’s set to debut worldwide within a few weeks. It’s interesting to note that “Persona 5: The Phantom X” is releasing just days before Atlus’ other significant release for the year, “RAIDOU Remastered.” Given that Atlus has no other scheduled releases aside from these two titles, it might be hinting at some significant announcements coming up this summer.

Atlus Hasn’t Made Any Major Announcements in a Long Time, But History Could Repeat Itself

To date, Atlus has kept details about its upcoming projects relatively scarce, apart from the recently announced RAIDOU Remastered. It’s been quite some time since Atlus unveiled any significant new projects like it did during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2023 with the announcements of Persona 3 Reload, Persona 5 Tactica, and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Given the recent rumors, there’s a chance that Atlus may follow suit and reveal several new games during the Xbox showcase next month.

Both Persona 6 and a Persona 4 Remake Could Be Revealed During the Summer

As a passionate fan of the Persona series, I’ve been buzzing with excitement over the whispers that Atlus might be cooking up two new additions to our beloved franchise – a remake of Persona 4 and Persona 6! It’s mind-blowing, considering Persona 3 Reload was only released two years ago, but it seems like Persona 4’s remake, let’s call it Persona 4 Rewind for now, could be closer to the finish line than we initially thought.

Intriguingly, earlier this year, some eagle-eyed fans noticed that Atlus registered a domain for a game titled P4R, which certainly resembles the initials of a potential Persona 4 remake. Remembering their past moves, like registering a domain before announcing Persona 3 Reload in 2023, we fans can’t help but suspect that the unveiling of P4R is imminent.

It appears that, unlike the recent remake of “Persona 4,” there isn’t much indication yet that a “Persona 6” announcement is coming up soon. However, considering the timing, it could very well be unveiled next month. Keep in mind that Atlus’ current release schedule will be cleared by the end of June, which suggests they might want to roll out major projects earlier rather than later. If Atlus were to announce both “Persona 6” and a new “Persona 4” remake at the June Xbox showcase, it would undoubtedly delight fans eagerly waiting for updates on their upcoming projects.
