In an unprecedented move for the series, Persona 5: The Phantom X is set to introduce a character who uses Personas – this time an elderly individual. This new figure is scheduled to appear in a future update of Persona 5: The Phantom X, coinciding with the arrival of Makoto Nijima, more famously recognized as the Phantom Thief Queen from Persona 5.
In recent times, the latest addition to the Persona series has faced some turbulence, primarily due to Persona 5: The Phantom X being heavily criticized by disgruntled players. Although transforming it into a game that incorporates gacha elements raised eyebrows before its launch, the main source of contention among fans has been the disparity in rewards between the global and original Chinese versions of the game.
In a departure from the franchise’s past, the upcoming game “Persona 5: The Phantom X” is set to introduce a Persona user who is 75 years old. Previously, all other Persona users in the series were under the age of 44, with the inclusion of a 44-year-old character being another new addition in this game. The game is now preparing to unveil Chizuko “Vino” Nagao, a Phantom Idol who employs the Persona Ampelos. She’s classified as a Saboteur, uses Nuclear attacks, and carries a four-star ranking, making it potentially easier for players to acquire her when she becomes available in the game. Accompanying her will be Queen, who makes her return with Johanna as her Persona. Queen is an Assassin-type that also inflicts Nuclear damage, and like her fellow Phantom Thieves from “Persona 5”, she’ll be a five-star character.
Does an Elderly Persona User Make Sense?

Generally, users of Persona are often young, ranging from their teens to twenties throughout the series. Before The Phantom X was launched, Zenkichi Hasegawa from Persona 5 Strikers was the oldest known user, but at 40 years old, he’s now outdated by Vino. While it might seem unrealistic to have an elderly character exploring a Palace, even in a game centered on altering hearts within a shared cognition Metaverse, her status as a Phantom Idol helps address this issue.

Phantom Idols are essentially virtual beings born from Wonder’s consciousness, modeled after people he has met. In reality, their actual counterparts have no understanding or consciousness of their Metaverse personas. For instance, a 44-year-old housewife named Kayo Tomiyama might appear much younger in the Metaverse as the vibrant gyaru Okyann.
In the forthcoming live stream of “Persona 5: The Phantom X,” scheduled for August 3, 5 am Pacific Time, we’ll delve deeper into the characters Vino and Queen, as well as discuss the upcoming 1.3 update. Stay tuned!
