As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and longing when it comes to the announcement of Persona 5: The Phantom X coming to Steam, albeit only for our Japanese counterparts. Having grown up with the original Persona 5 and its captivating narrative, the prospect of diving back into the world of the Phantom Thieves is tantalizingly close, yet frustratingly out of reach.
Atlus has revealed that the spin-off game Persona 5: The Phantom X is making its way to Steam, but currently only for Japanese audiences. Persona 5: The Phantom X, a mobile and PC adaptation of the main series, casts players as a high school student taking on the persona of the Phantom Thief known as Wonder. Unlike the traditional role-playing games in the Persona series, this game shares similarities with gacha titles such as Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy. Although the genre has changed, it maintains the essence of Persona 5, allowing players to collect Phantom Idols and their Persona II, which function as new Phantom Thieves and party members.
Originally designed for the Chinese market due to the absence of Persona 5 there, Persona 5: The Phantom X stands as an exclusive release for that region. However, many fans worldwide have expressed interest in playing this version, even surprising the developers with their enthusiasm. Although it has been playable on PC and mobile devices across China and Asia, it’s now making its way to Steam, but only through the Japanese client at this time.
On the official Twitter account for “Persona 5: The Phantom X,” which was established prior to the Tokyo Game Show 2024 event, it was announced that a pre-registration period for the closed beta of this game has begun. “P5X” can be played on various platforms, including iOS, Android, and PC. The Japanese version of the game will be accessible through Google Play Games and Steam. At the Tokyo Game Show 2024, “P5X” was showcased alongside other games such as “Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Persona 5: The Phantom X Steam Release is Japan-Only, But It’s Closer to Global
As an enthusiastic fan of “Persona 5: The Phantom X,” I was thrilled to learn that we wouldn’t have to install a separate client to play the game; instead, it would be accessible through Steam. This was particularly appealing because it eliminates the need for third-party software. Furthermore, the fact that Atlus has hinted at an international release of “P5X” during their offline event in July gives me confidence that a Steam release is on the horizon, which is fantastic news for fans like myself.
Atlus has announced that “Persona 5: The Phantom X” will be released on consoles following the game’s global debut. Additionally, “P5X” is expected to include collaborations with other “Persona” games, such as “Persona 5 Royal”, “Persona 3 Reload”, and “Persona 4 Golden”. Atlus has already planned out the ending for “P5X”, which is currently under further development. For now, the team behind “P5X” is primarily working on crossovers with the original “Persona 5” and adding additional content and Phantom Idol characters that players can acquire.
