As a long-time fan of the Persona series, I must say that the Velvet Room Attendants have always been one of the most intriguing aspects of these captivating games. Each attendant brings their unique charm and personality to the table, making them stand out in their own special ways.
In the world of Persona, a set of long-standing traditions bind the series’ narrative elements. One such tradition that significantly contributes to the series’ overall theme is the Velvet Room. Across each installment of Persona, you’ll find that the Velvet Room has its unique caretaker, often providing assistance to the player in various ways.
The Velvet Room serves as a tranquil refuge for players, offering opportunities to collect new entities known as Personas and escape the pressures of school and dungeons. Occupying this sanctuary are the Velvet Room Attendants who offer various assistance to aid the player. Some of these characters have compelling backstories, endearing personalities or even formidable challenges in battle, which makes certain Velvet Room Attendants stand out from the rest.
Persona Velvet Room Attendants Ranked
In the Velvet Room, the caretakers often have a family connection and resemble one another in several ways. Their appearances are striking, with golden eyes, platinum blonde hair, and deep blue attire being common features. Additionally, they embody the literary themes found within Persona, as many of their names draw inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Although characters like Persona 1 and Persona 2 emerged before common traits of the current Persona series became established, their unique Velvet Room Attendants are notable due to their distinct differences from their successors who seldom reappear in more recent games. Additionally, there are certain inhabitants of the Velvet Room that aren’t technically classified as Attendants, such as Igor and Philemon.
Due to their inherently kind and helpful personalities, most Velvet Room Attendants are appealing at the very least. From Persona 3 onwards, they also play increasingly significant roles in the storyline. However, despite each one having admirable traits, the Velvet Room Attendants are not all the same, and some of them truly shine among their peers.

S-Tier Velvet Room Attendants in the Persona Series
As a gaming enthusiast, I must admit that while some later characters have surpassed her in terms of usefulness, Elizabeth from Persona 3 Reload remains unrivaled when it comes to thematic relevance and comedic moments. Her dates with the player are filled with hilarious one-liners, making our bond stronger. What truly sets her apart is the growth and expansion of her relationship with the protagonist.
Margaret is the oldest member of her family at present, with Elizabeth being just slightly older. Contemporary “Persona” games have significantly enhanced the player experience compared to earlier versions. In line with this progression, Margaret introduced a minor trope where Velvet Room Attendants became slightly more beneficial to the player than their predecessors. Additionally, her relationship with her siblings is portrayed in such a way that she becomes even more intriguing. Lastly, Margaret’s boss battle in “Persona 4 Golden” is particularly memorable among all the Velvet Room attendants.
A-Tier Velvet Room Attendants in the Persona Series
While their abrasive nature definitely isn’t for everyone, Caroline and Justine are sure to make a lasting impression. Unlike Theodore and Elizabeth, Persona 5‘s twin Velvet Room Attendants are a package deal. In fact, their bond is what makes them so immediately interesting. The confusion and uncertainty surrounding Persona 5 Royal‘s Strength Confidant make them that much more intriguing compared to their siblings, and seeing them warm up to the player before eventually joining as one is one of the greatest joys the game has to offer.
Theodore doesn’t quite live up to his twin sister, but he’s still a very pleasant presence in his own right. Despite appearances, Theodore couldn’t be more different from Elizabeth. Theodore operates with a level of dorky naivete that makes him stick out like a sore thumb compared to his more evidently competent siblings, and the bullying he receives from his siblings only makes him more endearing. Overall, his unique personality and status as the only male Velvet Room Attendant in modern Persona games make Theodore a nice change of pace.
B-Tier Velvet Room Attendants in the Persona Series
Much like Theodore, Lavenza often feels overshadowed when compared to her peers. However, this shadowing is more pronounced as she has significantly less screen time than Caroline and Justine. Even with the expanded role given to her in Persona 5 Royal and recent spin-offs, it’s challenging not to perceive her as a manifestation of Caroline and Justine rather than an individual character. Lavenza primarily functions as a reward for cultivating a relationship with Caroline and Justine, and although it’s gratifying to witness the embodiment of their personal growth, she doesn’t quite make a strong impact on her own.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but be captivated by the enigmatic figure known as the Demon Painter, predominantly featured in the “Persona 2” series. Unlike other Attendants, he was the trailblazer who initiated the service-offering concept, making him a pioneer in his own right. Although his role in the game may not be grandiose, his unique status as the sole confirmed human among them certainly sets him apart. His influence on the concept of Attendants and his distinct personality exudes a charismatic coolness that’s hard to resist.
In the world of Persona 4 Golden, I found Marie’s role a bit puzzling at times. She’s a character who stirs up quite a conversation among fans, largely due to being emblematic of the “re-release girl” trend in the Persona series. Unlike my Velvet Room companions, Marie is far more casual and distinctively different in appearance. This uniqueness, rather than being a drawback, adds an endearing charm to her Social Link.
C-Tier Velvet Room Attendants in the Persona Series
As a dedicated fan, I’d like to express my appreciation for the unique characters in the Velvet Room from the Persona series. Contrary to what some may think, none of these Attendants are inherently evil. Even the ones who seem less central have left an indelible mark on me.
In their performance of the Soul Aria, Belladonna, who conceals her ears during her singing, and the mystery-shrouded Nameless playing blindfolded on the piano, offer a piece that could potentially unlock the hearts of players for Persona Fusion – a crucial element that might have remained untouched otherwise. Although they may no longer physically appear in the games post Persona 2, their essence continues to resonate deeply within the spirit of these intriguing video game series.
Belladonna and Nameless were around before Social Links, so they have fewer deep interactions with the player. However, this doesn’t mean that players should be disrespectful towards them. In fact, their small but significant influence on the Persona series highlights why the Velvet Room Attendants are more important than ever today.
