As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of console rivalries and developer controversies. The latest flare-up between S-GAME and Xbox fans has been quite intriguing, to say the least.

The developers of Phantom Blade Zero, S-GAME, have clarified they do not align with certain anti-Xbox comments made by one of their team members. Interestingly, they hinted that a potential Xbox port of Phantom Blade Zero might still be under consideration.

According to a report by GamePlaysCassi on August 3, a representative from Phantom Blade Zero’s development studio, S-GAME, stated that Xbox is not essential in their opinion. This statement was allegedly made during the ChinaJoy 2024 expo in late July, when asked about why the game had been skipped for Xbox. The representative explained further that Microsoft’s consoles aren’t widely used in Asia and that developing for the latest generation is challenging because it consists of two separate consoles. This comment sparked a lot of discussion among Xbox fans online due to its controversial nature.

Phantom Blade Zero Dev Says It’s Not Anti-Xbox

One day after the incident, S-GAME released an official statement distancing themselves from the controversial remarks. Although they didn’t explicitly deny someone from their company made those comments at ChinaJoy 2024, they stated that the sentiment expressed does not align with their “values or work environment.” Contrary to appearing biased against Xbox, Phantom Blade Zero’s developer clarified that they are actively working on ensuring their upcoming action RPG is as accessible as possible for all players. Regarding potential future ports of the game, including a possible Xbox version, the Chinese studio has not yet ruled it out.

Gamescom 2024 To Feature Phantom Blade Zero Demo

As a long-time gaming enthusiast with a keen eye for upcoming titles and a soft spot for samurai-themed action role-playing games (ARPG), I find myself quite excited about the latest news surrounding “Phantom Blade Zero.” Having grown up in an era where exclusivity deals between developers and console manufacturers were common, I remember the frustration of missing out on certain titles due to my choice of gaming platform. However, it’s refreshing to see companies like the developer of Phantom Blade Zero embracing cross-platform releases, ensuring that gamers like myself can enjoy their creations regardless of our preferred console or PC setup.

While S-GAME prefers to steer clear of discussions about whether or not to support Xbox, it’s important to note that not all game developers share this neutral stance. For instance, Remedy Entertainment, a Finnish developer, has openly acknowledged that the Xbox Series S poses challenges for developers due to its hardware limitations, which must be addressed from the project’s outset.
