The popular ghost-hunting game Phasmophobia has rolled out an update for May 2025, addressing various bugs that players had pointed out. This latest patch doesn’t bring a lot of new content, but it improves the overall performance and resolves recent problems.

Phasmophobia is a horror game that lets players become ghost hunters. They investigate spooky locations, gather proof of supernatural occurrences, and strive to survive. Released in early access in September 2020, it has thrived, selling more than 20 million copies only on PC. Four years later, it also became available on consoles, debuting on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S just before Halloween 2024. A significant factor contributing to Phasmophobia‘s success is the consistent updates provided by Kinetic Games, ensuring the game remains engaging and fun through continuous enhancements.

Kinetic Games has rolled out a fresh hotfix update, version 0.12.1.1, to tackle issues that surfaced following the commencement of the Phasmophobia Cursed Hollow event. This patch incorporates several crucial alterations, for instance, preventing players from setting gear on Jackalope nest eggs, which now function in line with the nests themselves. Additionally, it revamps the Obake ghost model to facilitate shapeshifting during seasonal events where it gets substituted by an event ghost model.

The update addresses several issues impacting both gameplay and user interface. For instance, audio will play correctly when you open the Cursed Hollow leaflet in the warehouse, and map voting functions as intended, with vote tapes returning to their correct positions following a map deselection. Additionally, various visual and performance problems have been addressed such as the absence of terrain textures on the Point Hope map, difficulties with DOTS T2 when Phasmophobia’s ghosts are near, and gamepad sensitivity issues stemming from recent deadzone adjustments. Notably, a crucial fix for VR players has been implemented, allowing ghosts to once again kill them, thereby restoring a fundamental aspect of the gaming experience.

The developers have mentioned that some lighting issues may persist during live events in certain maps, but they are monitoring the situation closely. Moving forward, Kinetic Games has revealed their plans for 2025 and beyond, which include significant updates, refreshed maps, and an increase in seasonal content. To add to this excitement, Phasmophobia recently surpassed a notable achievement by selling over 3 million copies on PlayStation, PS VR2, and Xbox Series X/S.
