Kinetic Games recently hinted at adding three new ghosts to the game Phasmophobia, but it wasn’t clear when they would be released. With the recent Winter’s Jest update now live, we can confirm the three new ghosts – the Obambo, the Gallu, and the Dayan – have been added to Phasmophobia.
There’s more to enjoy in Phasmophobia right now beyond its core gameplay. The recent Winter’s Jest update introduces the Krampus ghost, adds festive decorations to maps for a limited time, and launches some challenges for the player community. Plus, with the big Horror 2.0 update and a Switch 2 version planned for 2026, even more new content is coming soon.
The new ghosts in Phasmophobia are a significant addition to the game. Players will need to understand how each one behaves and learn to tell them apart. As always, these ghosts are inspired by real-world myths and legends. The Obambo comes from Central African mythology and is a powerful spirit that can be either helpful or dangerous. The Gallu is described as a demon rooted in ancient Mesopotamian beliefs. Finally, the Dayan is a vengeful spirit based on Indian and Pakistani folklore – a ghost of a woman who suffered a traumatic death, often during childbirth or due to murder.

The Obambo is a restless spirit, unable to find peace. It’s unpredictable and easily agitated, shifting quickly between being calm and hostile.
Strength: While aggressive, the Obambo is quicker to start hunting.
Weakness: While calm, the Obambo is slower to start hunting and easier to track.

Dayan Details and Evidence in Phasmophobia
The Dayan originates from the spirit of a person who experienced extreme hardship and suffering during their life. Now, after death, she is extremely watchful and wary of anyone who gets too close or seems careless.
Strength: The Dayan gains strength to protect herself if people ‘dance’ too close to her.
Weakness: The Dayan loses strength if people close to her stand still.

Gallu Details and Evidence in Phasmophobia
As a folklore enthusiast, I’ve come across the Gallu – basically another type of ghost or demon that really drives home the idea that everyone dies eventually. Interestingly, the old stories say that trying to shield yourself from it actually just annoys it and makes it harder to get rid of! It’s like it thrives on resistance.
Okay, so in this game, if I try to defend myself against the ghost with armor or something, it actually makes it mad. And when it gets angry, my gear doesn’t work as well – basically, it gets weaker. So, turtling up isn’t always the best strategy!
Weakness: Being enraged exhausts the Gallu, making protective equipment more effective.

Kinetic Games has delivered a fantastic update to Phasmophobia, essentially a holiday treat for fans! The community has been consistently asking for new ghosts, and the recent Horror 2.0 update delivers. I’m really excited to try hunting them down. With new maps like Nell’s Diner, these fresh ghosts, and ongoing support from the developers, Phasmo continues to be the top ghost hunting game available. And with more content planned for 2026, it doesn’t look like anything will challenge its position anytime soon.
