According to the latest reports, Microsoft’s Xbox brand is planning to stop releasing games exclusively on its consoles. In response, Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, stated that there’s no compelling reason for them to continue keeping their first-party games exclusive to the Xbox console lineup.
In a conversation with Destin Legarie, Spencer stated that our approach involves making games accessible. Removing games from platforms isn’t something we consider viable or effective. Instead, what we’re currently doing helps us create the optimal platform for top-notch global games.
Spencer acknowledges a growing trend: more and more games are accessible beyond just the conventional Xbox console. His goal for Xbox is to facilitate connections between players and content creators in every manner, be it through playing Xbox games on computers, smartphones, or traditional consoles.
For a while now, the Xbox brand has been leaning towards a particular direction, offering simultaneous launch of its games across consoles and computers. Additionally, it provides an option for gamers to stream games on mobile devices using Xbox Remote Play.
Spencer Mentions That Starfield Could Be Coming to Other Platforms
When Microsoft acquired prominent publishers such as Bethesda and Activision, many believed it was intended to increase Xbox’s high-profile exclusives, helping it compete with Sony and Nintendo. However, this hasn’t been the norm except for a few titles like Redfall and Starfield.
* Indiana Jones: The Great Circle is coming to PlayStation 5 this year.
* Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been launched on a wide range of platforms.
These games are merely the tip of the iceberg. According to a recent report, we can expect titles such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 to appear on the PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
With the latest “Any device capable of playing video games can be considered an Xbox” advertising strategy, it’s simpler to grasp a scenario where Master Chief appears on a PlayStation or Nintendo console.
Spencer consistently emphasizes his commitment to making Xbox games easily accessible for everyone, and this is the approach he takes.
