Microsoft is planning to make its entry into the portable gaming sector, a move that appears imminent rather than uncertain. This development has sparked enthusiasm in Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox.
During a chat with iJustine, Spencer hinted at possible future plans for portable gaming on Xbox without providing concrete details. However, he did give another tantalizing glimpse into what we might expect in the near future.
In response to being asked about any exciting news from Xbox in 2025, Spencer shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We’ve been hinting at portable devices and I’m really looking forward to it because we both travel a lot, and it’s not always feasible to carry your console or full-sized gaming setup along.
According to reports, although Spencer hasn’t explicitly confirmed it, Microsoft might team up with ASUS to launch a portable PC under the Xbox brand. Unlike a fully-fledged Xbox mobile system, this device is rumored to carry a strong Xbox identity, featuring an Xbox guide button and enhanced grips for better handling. However, it should be noted that this portable PC won’t run Xbox games directly.
Regarding an official Xbox handheld, that’s not rumored to come until 2027.
