Physint And OD Development Affected By SAG Strike

Summary

  • Kojima is developing action espionage Physint & horror title OD, both affected by SAG strike.
  • SAG-AFTRA strike halted scanning & filming, impacting game development.
  • Kojima plans Death Stranding film & events, faces delays, hoping to resume productions soon.

As a dedicated fan of Hideo Kojima’s groundbreaking and innovative games, I have to admit that his latest announcements about OD and Physint left me both excited and a bit worried. On one hand, the thought of new action espionage and horror titles from the mind behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding is truly tantalizing. However, hearing about the impact of the SAG strike on their development has me a bit on edge.

Over the years, I’ve learned to be patient with Kojima’s meticulous approach to game development – after all, it’s paid off with masterpieces like Metal Gear Solid V and Death Stranding. But delays can be tough, especially when we’re already eagerly anticipating these new projects.

Still, I have faith that Kojima will persevere and find a way to push through the challenges presented by the strike. After all, he’s no stranger to overcoming adversity – just look at how Death Stranding was developed amidst the dissolution of Konami!

In the meantime, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that OD and Physint will resume development soon, and maybe even get a sneak peek at some new trailers or gameplay footage in 2025. And who knows? Maybe we’ll even see Kojima grace us with another surprise announcement – like a cameo in the live-action Death Stranding film!

On a lighter note, I can’t help but wonder if the SAG strike is just Kojima’s way of giving us a little more time to catch up on all the other games we’ve been neglecting while eagerly awaiting his next masterpiece. After all, as fans, it’s important that we stay well-rounded and play everything, right? Right?!

Besides the eagerly anticipated Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, gaming legend Hideo Kojima recently unveiled plans for two more thrilling projects. One is an action-packed espionage game called Physint, which I can hardly wait to dive into. The other is a chilling horror experience in partnership with Xbox, dubbed OD. Though details have been scarce, these games are definitely on the horizon, so keep your fingers crossed!

In a year-end update, posted on platform X (previously known as Twitter), renowned game creator Hideo Kojima shared insights about the past year and provided updates on the progress of projects OD and Physint.

Physint and OD Scanning And Filming Suspended Because of SAG Strike

Kojima began by expressing gratitude for the support received throughout 2024, acknowledging it was a busy year with numerous projects: developing DS2, releasing our second trailer, actor ADR sessions, music production and recording, as well as Japanese voice recordings. During the summer, we began working on and refining the game, and for the first time in five years, we hosted a TGS stage event.

Kojima links the development of OD and Physint, explaining that the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike impacted both projects. He notes, “For OD, we progressed with game development, including actor and environment scanning. However, in the latter half of the year, both scanning and filming were halted due to the SAG strike. Similarly, casting for Physint was postponed because of the strike. We’re hoping to pick up again next year.

On July 26, 2024, Screen Actors-Guild (SAG) and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) members decided to go on strike. The cause was over 18 months of failed negotiations with major video game companies regarding the impact of AI (Artificial Intelligence). If you want to learn more about this event, you can find further details here.

In his latest update to fans, Kojima mentions several projects he’s worked on in Japan, including essays published in anan and Nikkei newspaper, radio programs like “Hide Radio ♾” and “KOJI10”, a special episode of “HideoTube”, and the “Hidemys 2024” book fair, which he almost abandoned. He also commented on fewer movies and novels than usual. The planning for the live-action Death Stranding film with A24 is ongoing, along with other adaptations. Kojima has signed with WME, and events like the “Death Stranding Exhibition” at Shibuya PARCO (with Nagoya and Osaka to follow next year) were held. He describes 2024 as a year that flew by quickly.

As Kojima is engrossed in creating Death Stranding 2, we fervently hope that the issues with OD and Physint get addressed promptly. To be honest, Kojima isn’t recognized for his speedy game development pace, so any obstacles like the strike can only prolong the anticipation of those eager to discover what Kojima’s next projects will offer.

Previously, the latest glimpse of Death Stranding 2 was back in September, showcased through a fresh trailer which revealed an unusual type of Photography Mode from the visionary mind of Kojima.
