As a gamer diving into the latest adventure of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, I’ve come across an intriguing bunch – the Rich family. Jason, their patriarch, was once a treasure hunter before he rekindled his passion for the job alongside his son Noah, as part of the Goro Pirates in this tropical paradise. Alongside them are Naomi and Moana, making up the rest of this dynamic crew. The Rich family isn’t just another group to interact with for Goro Majima; they’re a fresh and captivating addition that perfectly blends with the game’s nautical theme and island vibe. Plus, their names – uniquely themed around pirates and the ocean – add an extra layer of immersion in this seafaring world.
The Rich Family Are Named After Famous Sailors
In keeping with their lineage as a family of treasure hunters and pirates residing on a Hawaiian island, each member of the Rich clan, excluding Noah’s tiger cub pet Goro, who was named so because he resembled one, carries a name linked to significant historical or mythological figures or ocean-themed media characters.
Jason Rich – Named For The Captain Of The Argo
The head of the Rich family is a man named Jason Rich, who used to be a treasure seeker before he established a bar on Rich Island. He turned to treasure hunting due to whispers of a legendary artifact that could alleviate Noah’s asthma symptoms. Ultimately persuaded by Majima and Noah, he embarks on another nautical adventure. Jason is named after the Greek mythological hero who piloted the ship Argo and led the Argonauts. Like the character Jason from Pirate Yakuza, the legendary Jason was renowned for his pursuit of treasure – in his case, the Golden Fleece, which would grant him kingship.
Naomi Rich – Named For A Famous Female Sailor
In simple terms, Jason Rich’s eldest child, Naomi, faces family disagreements due to her employment in Madlantis, a pirate hideout, where she works under Queen Michele as a bodyguard. Her name is reminiscent of Dame Naomi James, the trailblazing woman who sailed around the globe alone. She embarked on this historic journey in 1977 and completed it in just 272 days, shattering the existing solo sailing record at that time.
Moana Rich – Named For Disney’s Wayfinder
Moana Rich, nicknamed after the fearless heroine from Disney’s “Moana” and its sequel, serves as the middle child in the Rich family. Unlike her siblings Jason and Noah, she remains on Rich Island to manage Bar Esperanza while her father is away. This strong-willed woman possesses a deep affection for sailing and maintains a unique bond with the sea. In the game “Pirate Yakuza”, Moana exhibits the same spirited determination and independent leadership that her namesake is known for, as she runs the bar primarily on her own throughout most of the storyline.
Noah Rich – Named For The Biblical Figure
Born into the family, Noah Rich nurtures a passion for travel and discovery. However, due to his asthma, he’s been confined to Rich Island since birth. At long last, an opportunity presents itself when he signs up as crew on the Goromaru. Noah’s name is derived from the Biblical figure, Noah, who constructed an ark and sailed it during the Great Flood, along with his kin and pairs of every animal species.
As a fervent admirer, I find an interesting parallel between the character of Noah from Biblical lore and the spirited protagonist of “Pirate Yakuza”. Though the former is a less willing mariner compared to the enthusiastic youth in the novel, they both harbor a profound affection for creatures great and small. In the tale, Noah adopts Goro, a playful tiger cub, and subsequently motivates Majima to embark on a quest across Hawaii, rescuing a myriad of animals and relocating them to the Goro Kingdom on Rich Island – their unlikely sanctuary where these extraordinary charges are tenderly nurtured.
