One idea was that the game’s servers only updated three times per second, which was causing problems with players seeing things out of sync. However, recent reports suggest this isn’t actually the case.

ARC Raiders Players Report Desync and Hit Detection Issues

A recent report from The Escapist shed light on the technical side of ARC Raiders. Their tests showed the game’s servers actually run around 90 times per second, proving wrong the widespread belief that they were running at a very slow 3 times per second – a rate that would have made the game nearly unplayable. The studio is also working to fix server problems and connection issues that some players are still encountering.

The claim was also debunked by ARCRaidersNews on X, who shared that someone at Embark Studios told them the game wouldn’t even be able to run at 3 frames per second.

Despite reports that the rumor was false, videos continue to appear on platforms like Reddit, YouTube, and X showing players in ARC Raiders being hit even when clearly protected by cover, or experiencing noticeable delays before damage registers. Some players think this is due to how the game sends and receives information using UDP, a system for managing real-time movement. While Embark hasn’t addressed any specific cause, they have admitted to general server issues since the game launched.

A Serious Desync Problem Could Sink ARC Raiders

These technical problems are especially damaging for a game like ARC Raiders, which relies on players coming back regularly and building a good reputation. While the shooting mechanics are fun when they work correctly, connection issues can ruin player-versus-player combat, turning exciting moments into frustrating experiences. When basic gameplay elements like cover and timing become unreliable, it undermines the feeling of control that makes this type of shooter enjoyable.

If Embark doesn’t quickly find and fix the problems causing players to disconnect from ARC Raiders, the game’s promising start could be ruined by network issues. Fortunately, given how frequently Embark releases updates, a solution might arrive soon. Right now, players have plenty of proof that these problems exist.
