Summary
- The Order: 1886 was intended to be part of a trilogy.
- Future games would include bigger fights and multiplayer.
- Unfortunately, developer Ready at Dawn was shuttered in 2024.
It turns out that one of the creators behind “The Order: 1886” originally envisioned it as the initial installment of a three-game series. Unfortunately, production on a follow-up to “The Order: 1886” was initiated but ultimately scrapped, leaving eager fans hoping for additional tales set within this game’s world feeling let down.
Released in 2015 exclusively on PS4, “The Order: 1886” – a creation by Ready at Dawn, immerses players in an action-adventure set within a steampunk London of an alternate history. The game’s narrative unfolds primarily through linear paths, with cover-based shooting mechanics as the primary interaction. Although it received high praise for its visual and production qualities, “The Order: 1886” faced criticism due to its brief length and limited gameplay freedom, with many critics expressing disappointment that there wasn’t more to explore or do.
1886 ultimately halted the project, causing the sequel to be put on hold. Concepts for a third installment were never even advanced into early production stages, despite the team having ideas about its narrative.
The Order: 1886’s Sequel Would Have Multiplayer and Bigger Combat Sequences
On various occasions, team members from Ready at Dawn Studios have expressed interest in creating a follow-up title for The Order: 1886. Last year, one of the co-founders of the studio, Andrea Pessino, disclosed that they had proposed a sequel to Sony, who ultimately chose not to proceed because the original game didn’t perform well. Consequently, the team shifted their focus towards other projects.
For quite some time now, enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating a follow-up to the game “The Order: 1886“. Although its reviews weren’t always positive, many believed there was potential for further exploration of this intellectual property. In 2021, Sony registered a trademark for “The Order: 1886“, which rekindled hope among fans, but unfortunately, no new developments have been announced since, leaving the game’s devoted community feeling let down.
The dream of a new game within the universe of The Order: 1886 significantly diminished when Ready at Dawn shut its doors last year, marking two decades since its establishment. However, it’s important to note that in 2020, the studio was acquired by Oculus Studios, which is a part of Meta. Four years following this acquisition, Meta closed down the studio amidst a series of layoffs sweeping through the gaming industry in 2024 and persisting into 2025.
