Rumors that the PlayStation 5 can be jailbroken have led to a massive price surge – over 1000% – for one Star Wars video game.
The rumor is that this jailbreak technique only works with a physical copy of a specific game.
Before recent rumors started circulating, Star Wars Racer Revenge typically sold for about $50. Now, people are listing it on eBay for as much as $500 – a ten-times increase in price.
Gezine noted on X that the game’s price recently jumped because there are only about 10,000 copies available, which is a small amount overall.
Currently, Star Wars Racer Revenge is the only game confirmed to be working. It’s believed this is due to a loophole that affects how the PlayStation 5 checks discs for older games.
Sony hasn’t commented on the reports, but if they’re accurate, these jailbreaks could create security risks for the company. It’s currently unknown what this means for PlayStation 5 consoles that have already been jailbroken, but it suggests we might soon see a lot more jailbroken consoles available.
