PlayStation Announces Focus On PS5 Games For Future PS Plus Games

Sony has revealed plans to stop including PlayStation 4 (PS4) games in the lineup of free monthly titles for PlayStation Plus subscribers, as well as the PlayStation Game Catalog.

In their announcement about the free games for February 2025 on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has shared that they plan to emphasize adding more PlayStation 5 (PS5) games to their lineup, starting from the following year.

Since a lot of our players are now playing games on PS5 and prefer to access and redeem PS5 titles from the Monthly Games and Game Catalog perk, PlayStation Plus is adapting to this shift and will start providing PS5 games through the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefit as of January 2026,” the company announced.

Starting from January 2026, the regular perk of having PS4 games as a main feature will cease for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Instead, these games will occasionally appear in the Monthly Games and Game Catalog. However, some titles that can be played on both PS4 and PS5 systems may still be made available after this date.

The firm has clarified that any PS4 games previously obtained through PlayStation Plus’ monthly offerings can still be played as long as your subscription remains active. According to Sony, PS4 titles within their catalog will remain accessible until they are removed from the service.

They mentioned that we’ll keep enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience, making improvements to the perks you get such as special discounts, multiplayer access online, game storage for saves, and much more. As we gear up for PS5, we’re excited to start offering new PS5 games every month for your enjoyment.
