Although Nintendo insists that the console’s cost isn’t related to tariffs, uncertainty among American retailers has led many to anticipate an increase in the system’s price.

Fans of Nintendo aren’t the only ones contemplating how tariffs might influence the price of fresh hardware. In fact, users on the PlayStation 5 subreddit are expressing concerns that due to tariffs imposed on China and Vietnam, the cost of a PS5 Pro could potentially surge well above $1,000.

As a gaming enthusiast, if Sony were to price a hypothetical PS5 Pro at such levels, I’d rather not speculate about the potential cost of the future PlayStation 6 when it hits the shelves.

While there’s no formal confirmation about a PS6, it seems unlikely that we won’t see one given the launches of Nintendo Switch 2 this year and Microsoft’s discussion on new hardware. It’s quite possible that Sony is already working on the next generation after the PS5.

If Sony doesn’t increase the production cost of PlayStation 6 due to tariffs, you might still find them raising the product price. This is because Sony has been known for setting game prices at $70, suggesting that they may use any opportunity to boost profits.

A PlayStation fan expressed frustration at the possibility of companies not impacted by tariffs increasing their prices due to them, similar to what happened during the COVID-19 period.

An ideal justification since the consumer is unable to assess them directly. Moreover, it’s highly unlikely that they would revisit these matters once the current events subside, such as in a post-COVID world.

Regrettably, it’s a fact that hiking prices can lead to a tipping point. I recall a moment of surprise when game costs escalated from $50 to $60 during the Xbox 360’s debut. Microsoft initially maintained the price of their first-party games such as Project Gotham Racing 3 and Perfect Dark: Zero at $50, but eventually, we found ourselves paying $60 for titles like Gears of War and Halo 3.
