The snowboarding game Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is now available on PlayStation 5, after a short delay. It comes to PlayStation nearly a year after it was first released on Xbox.
Megagon Industries, a studio based in Berlin, created Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders, a follow-up to their 2019 mountain biking game, Lonely Mountains: Downhill. This new game keeps the same overhead camera angle as the original, but instead of biking, you now ski! The environments have also changed to reflect the winter season, with snow and ice replacing dirt and sand. It was first released on January 21st for Xbox Series X/S and PC, and became available on Xbox Game Pass at the same time.
Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders Reaches PlayStation 5 After Last-Minute Delay
After launching on Xbox nearly eleven months ago, the simple yet engaging skiing game Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders became available on PlayStation 5 on December 15th. The PS5 version was initially planned to release on December 3rd, but a last-minute bug caused a delay. Megagon Industries didn’t provide many details about the issue, and a new release date wasn’t announced until the game unexpectedly appeared on the PlayStation Store on December 15th.
Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders’ First DLC Is Also Out on PlayStation Store
The skiing game costs $24.99 on PlayStation, the same price as on Xbox and Steam. For $28.49, you can buy a Supporter Edition that includes extra cosmetic items like a flight jacket, retro racing suit, a beanie with glasses, and a special helmet-goggle set. These cosmetic items are also sold separately as a ‘Supporter Pack’ for $7.99, but it’s cheaper to buy them with the main game.
So, the Highlands DLC for Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is $7.99, and it came out back on October 30th alongside the PS5 version of the game. It adds a new mountain, Ben Fiadhein, with four trails – each trail has two different slopes to ride. There’s a bunch of new challenges to tackle and rewards to earn, plus new leaderboards and you can even play with friends! Even if you don’t buy it, you can still try out the Highlands trails in quick matches with other players, but if you want to create private tours and ride with just your friends, you’ll need to pick up the $7.99 DLC.
Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders Supports Co-Op for up to 8 Players
So, the big news with Snow Riders is that it’s finally got multiplayer! The first Lonely Mountains game was all about going solo, but this time around you can team up with anywhere from two to eight friends and tackle the mountains together. We share checkpoints, which is awesome, or you can just race head-to-head. Just a heads-up, it’s online only – no split-screen here. If you enjoyed the co-op in Riders Republic, you’ll probably dig this too, but it’s a bit more chill. It’s less about going super fast and more about enjoying the ride and taking in the views, which I really appreciate.
Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders Receives Its First PlayStation Patch
A new update for Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders on PlayStation was released on December 16th. According to developer Megagon Industries, the update fixes most of the problems reported by players who bought the game early, including some crashes. It’s still unclear if this PlayStation version is the last platform the game will be released on. The original Lonely Mountains: Downhill came to Nintendo Switch seven months after launching on other consoles, so there’s a chance the sequel could also appear on a Nintendo system.
