PlayStation Portal OLED Scheduled for 2026, It’s Claimed

Following the popularity of the first model, reports suggest PlayStation is working on a new version of the Portal handheld, and this one could feature an OLED screen.

Over the past year, rumors have been circulating about the next PlayStation handheld, potentially the PlayStation 6. These reports suggest it will be able to connect to a TV like a console, but won’t be as powerful as the PlayStation 5. Recently, new details have also emerged regarding the current PlayStation handheld, the Portal.

PlayStation Portal OLED Model is Reportedly in Development

A user named KeplerL2 on the Neogaf forum shared information suggesting a new PlayStation Portal model is in development. Kepler initially mentioned the handheld would use RDNA5 technology, then stated the original Portal appears to be selling well and that PlayStation is planning an updated version this year. When asked for details, Kepler confirmed this new version would feature an OLED screen.

Last year, the PlayStation Portal got an unexpected update allowing users with PlayStation Plus Premium to stream certain PS5 games directly to their device. The available games include popular titles like Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, Resident Evil 4, Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, among others.

The PlayStation Portal OLED Model could appeal to more people with its upcoming update, but we haven’t received official word yet, so this information should be considered unconfirmed for now.

Here’s a quick update: Reports suggest Xbox halted plans for a portable gaming device because AMD requested a large minimum order of 10 million units. Also, the PlayStation Store briefly listed an upgrade for Kingdom Come: Deliverance on PS5, seemingly confirming it’s on the way. We’re curious – what do you think about a potential OLED version of the PlayStation Portal? Would you buy one?
