PlayStation Promotes Strange Resident Evil Rip-off Named ‘Ebola Village’

A new trailer on the official PlayStation YouTube channel has revealed ‘Ebola Village’, a first-person horror shooter launching January 23rd on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The game’s unusual name is just the beginning of its strange and unsettling nature.

As a fan, I immediately noticed the video’s cover looked like it was made with AI, and honestly, it reminded me a lot of Resident Evil – even the font was the same! Plus, the makeup in the gameplay footage just didn’t look good, and the whole thing felt really outdated, like it was from a game several years old.

It’s important to remember that Ebola Village was first released on computers several months ago. What’s really strange is that it’s just the newest of many similar games, and none of them have ever become popular.

Why is PlayStation Promoting Ebola Village?

The reaction to the new Ebola Village trailer has been overwhelmingly negative, and it clearly shows how confused PlayStation fans are about the game.

Someone joked about having Resident Evil at home, referencing a popular internet meme. Another user criticized PlayStation for seemingly promoting a low-quality, cheaply made game.

Here’s the full trailer, in case you want to see the content for yourself:

The trailer features scenes that strongly resemble moments from recent Resident Evil games. A key example is when the main character is pursued by a crazed villager with a chainsaw, a situation players will immediately recognize from the 2004 game, Resident Evil 4.

The game’s animations and graphics clearly weren’t made with a large budget, and while we generally enjoy indie titles, ‘Ebola Village’ borrows a lot from games like Resident Evil. Players immediately started making fun of the title in the video’s comment section.

  • ‘What’s next, COVID City?’
  • ‘Tuberculosis Town next’
  • ‘From the makers of Coronaland and SARSville comes a terrifying new chapter’

Ebola Village will be available to download on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 starting January 23rd. It’s generating some buzz, and might be worth checking out. As of today, the game has received a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam based on 319 user reviews.
