Sony is celebrating PlayStation’s 30th anniversary with a new photography book and a special pair of sneakers. The limited-edition sneakers will be available in the next few weeks, and the photography book will be released next year.
2024 celebrated the 30th anniversary of the PS1, the console that truly launched the PlayStation brand and made it a major player in gaming. To mark this milestone, Sony released a special, limited-edition run of PS5 consoles. These consoles featured the PS1’s signature light gray color, and even included DualSense controllers with brightly colored buttons. As you might expect, the PS5 30th anniversary collection was incredibly popular with fans and sold out very quickly.
New PlayStation 30th Anniversary Merch Includes a Photo Book and PS1-Themed Sneakers
A small additional supply of the PS5 30th anniversary consoles was revealed a few months ago for those who weren’t able to buy one initially. Sony has now unveiled a couple more items to celebrate the 30th anniversary. The first is PlayStation: The First 30 Years, a 400-page photo book priced at $125 that showcases previously unreleased prototypes and design sketches of PlayStation consoles over the years. You can now pre-order PlayStation: The First 30 Years, with the book expected to be released in spring 2026. A Deluxe Edition is also available for $325, which includes a special presentation box, exposed binding, and exclusive prints, but it’s limited to only 1,994 copies.
Okay, so this is awesome news! Sony is teaming up with Reebok to make some seriously cool sneakers based on the original PlayStation. They’re going with that classic light gray color scheme from the PS1, and they’ll have colorful PlayStation designs all over them. Plus, the packaging is going to look just like the console itself! There will be three different versions depending on where you are. If you’re in the US, you can grab the Pump Omni Zone 2 for $220. In Japan, they’re releasing the InstaPump Fury 94 for ¥37,000. And if you’re in the UK, you can get the Workout Plus for £150. The best part? We don’t have to wait forever – they’re planning to drop at select retailers around mid-October 2025!
These new PlayStation items celebrating the brand’s 30th anniversary might have come as a surprise, but they’re sure to be popular with dedicated fans. It’s unclear if Sony has any further celebratory products planned. The last week has been exciting for PlayStation enthusiasts, as the recent September State of Play featured gameplay of Saros and a new trailer for Insomniac’s highly anticipated Wolverine game – which is set to release in fall 2026.
