PS1 Horror Classic Now Available For PlayStation Plus Members

Sony has released a quiet Alone in the Dark 2, the chilling horror classic from 1996. Originally developed by Infogrames, this game is not connected to the numerous franchise reboots that have emerged over the years.

In 2001, a reboot of the game “Alone in the Dark” was released, titled “Alin the Dark: The New Nightmare.” Developed by Darkworks, this console version received positive critical reception but didn’t sell enough to prompt a sequel. As a result, the franchise was quiet for seven years until another reboot, named simply “Alone in the Dark,” was released in 2008. This time, it was developed by Eden Games and available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Critics gave this version mixed reviews.

Last year, a new reboot titled “Alone in the Dark” emerged from Pieces Interactive and was published by THQ Nordic. This latest version is a modern adaptation of the 1992 original, similar to the style of Resident Evil, and features Hollywood actor David Harbour (“Stranger Things,” “Hellboy”) as protagonist Edward Carnby.

Regrettably, the most recent re-launch didn’t create much excitement among shoppers, despite receiving generally positive reviews.

Regarding the old-school PS1 game, it garnered mostly favorable feedback when initially launched. However, given today’s standards, some aspects like gameplay dynamics and control schemes might seem outdated.

Although Alone in the Dark 2 may not appear initially captivating, horror enthusiasts might find it unexpectedly satisfying. Back then, PlayStation 1 games didn’t have the advanced graphical capabilities we see today to build tension primarily through visuals. As a result, developers had to be more imaginative in evoking fear and suspense among players. Now, you can experience this creativity for free on the subscription service.

Sony has secretly uploaded a demo of a newer Star Wars game onto the PlayStation Network, which is accessible to all users, even those who don’t have a PS Plus subscription.
