Following years of dominance in the stealth genre through various Hitman games, IO Interactive is set to deliver James Bond fans their first game in fourteen years with 007 First Light. The announcement was a shock for Bond enthusiasts and was initially unveiled globally through its debut trailer during the June PlayStation State of Play event. As of now, there’s no specific release date for 007 First Light outside of its 2026 window, but both PlayStation and IO Interactive have confirmed a detailed update on the game will be shared this week, potentially disclosing significant information.
PlayStation State of Play Confirmed for September 3
This month, industry insider Jeff Grubb leaked that Sony was arranging a new State of Play event for September. Now that the new month has begun, Sony has swiftly confirmed the news. Regrettably, there won’t be any updates regarding popular titles like Marvel’s Wolverine or other eagerly awaited PlayStation exclusives, as the upcoming State of Play on September 3 will solely focus on 007 First Light. In a recent blog post, they have announced that the event will start at 11am PT / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST and will showcase approximately 30 minutes of gameplay from 007 First Light.

Yann Roskell, IO Interactive’s Senior Global Communication Manager, recently announced that an upcoming event will showcase gameplay from Bond’s initial mission in the game 007 First Light, including thrilling car chases, stealth sequences on foot, and shootouts. While details about a potential release date and cast members are still unknown, fans have been eagerly awaiting information about the identity of the new James Bond in this game. However, IO Interactive has chosen to keep that detail under wraps for now, explaining that they want people to engage with the game first before revealing any additional information.

Fans excitedly awaiting the release of 007 First Light will undoubtedly be thrilled with the special display, but those hoping for a final glimpse of Ghost of Yotei before its October launch might find themselves let down. However, there’s some positive news: Ghost of Yotei is scheduled to appear at the Tokyo Game Show 2025, running from September 25 – 28 in Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan, alongside Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls .
