PlayStation VR2 Owners Suddenly Have a Reason to Dig Their Headset Out of the Closet

A new game called Rager, which features combat synced to the rhythm of the music, has been revealed for PlayStation VR2. The game is scheduled to be released on March 5, 2026, according to a post on the PlayStation Blog.

PlayStation VR2 launched in February 2023 for $549.99 and received a mixed response. Reviewers loved the technology itself – features like haptic feedback in the headset, eye-tracking, a high-quality OLED display, and the innovative Sense controllers – but the initial selection of games was a letdown. While Horizon: Call of the Mountain was a standout title, there weren’t any other major first-party games available at launch. Since then, popular third-party games like The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, Beat Saber, and The Midnight Walk have been released for PS VR2, the platform still really needs some essential first-party games to truly shine.

Rager Comes to PlayStation VR2 on March 5, 2026

While not a major, highly-anticipated release, Rager could be a compelling reason for PlayStation VR2 owners to revisit virtual reality. According to a recent PlayStation Blog post, Rager is a VR fighting game powered by music, where the beat is central to the experience. Similar to Beat Saber, all actions in Rager – blocking, attacking, and moving – are synchronized with the game’s music. However, instead of slicing glowing blocks, players will battle waves of dark, robotic ninja enemies, requiring precise timing and skillful attacks.

When it releases, Rager will have a complete campaign with 12 carefully designed levels and three challenging boss battles. Each level will give players a different weapon to master, forcing them to quickly learn how it works. These weapons are all very distinct – for example, you can use a sword and mace in both hands, while the axe and hammer are best used with two hands. Rager will also include a Freestyle mode where players can pick and choose any weapon they want.

Though Rager is new to PlayStation VR2, it’s already been available on Meta Quest 3 and 3S since October 2025. Currently, it has a 4.6 out of 5-star rating on the Meta Quest Store, based on 139 ratings and 106 reviews. In an early look at the game, K. Guillory of UploadVR described Rager as feeling like “an immersive fitness routine straight out of a movie,” highlighting its strong gameplay while noting that the early access version could use more content.

The VR game Rager is coming to PS VR2 with all the same content as the Meta Quest version, but it’s been optimized for Sony’s headset. It will run at a smooth 90Hz, utilize the headset’s HDR display, and use eye-tracking to focus image clarity where the player is looking. Rager will also fully integrate the PS VR2’s haptic feedback, meaning players will feel impacts in the Sense controllers and even through the headset when getting hit.

A listing for the game Rager is now available on the PlayStation Store, but the price hasn’t been announced yet. It currently costs $14.99 on the Meta Quest Store. However, since Rager is still in early access, the price might go up when it officially releases on PS VR2 on March 5th.
