Pocketpair Publishing Warns Gamers To Not Expect ‘More Palworld’

About four weeks ago, at the close of January, news broke about Pocketpair Publishing – a fresh division of the company responsible for Palworld. Pocketpair Publishing is focused on breathing life into independent video games. Yet, the head of its publishing sector, John Buckley, recently made a cautious statement.

He pointed out that although Pocketpair Publishing shares its name, it has no connection to the development of Palworld. It’s important not to infer that future games under this publishing label will be Palworld sequels or spin-offs. In other words, players should not anticipate the same level of global acclaim as experienced by Palworld when it releases in 2024.

‘They Are All Bangers’

John Buckley, from Pocketpair Publishing, recently expressed his apprehension on social media about unveiling the initial collection of games his team is developing. Back in January, it became known that Surgent Studios, the mastermind behind Tales of Kenzera, has partnered with Pocketpair Publishing to create a new game.

On Twitter, Buckley wrote:

I’m very nervous to reveal our first batch of games.

I’m concerned that they might anticipate another round of Palworld, given how popular those tracks have been, rather than appreciating the new material for its own merit.

PPP’s goal is to help cool indies get made so I hope you like our first round of games!

Afterward, he emphasized that Palworld’s continuous progression remains entirely independent of PPP, and there are currently no plans to release additional games similar to Palworld from us.

The comment about Bucky joining PPP’s game lineup has been met with varying opinions. Some think that his involvement may have already tainted the upcoming games, lowering expectations and suggesting doubt from the publisher about their potential success.

Surprisingly, Palworld, initially perceived as a game similar to Pokémon but featuring guns, didn’t just meet, but exceeded expectations by shattering player count records and garnering over 10 million fans in a short span of time. As a developer working with Pocketpair Publishing, I might find myself questioning that post from the publishing manager, given such unexpected success.
