As a die-hard Pokemon fan with a heart full of nostalgia, I can hardly contain my excitement! The return of the beloved trading cards to McDonald’s Happy Meals is like a dream come true, reminding me of countless hours spent collecting and trading cards during my childhood.

It seems that enthusiasts of the popular franchise, Pokemon, can anticipate finding trading cards in McDonald’s Happy Meals later this year, as these two entities, Pokemon and McDonald’s, have a long-standing collaboration dating back more than a decade. In fact, since 2011, Pokemon cards have been included with McDonald’s Happy Meals annually, and there have also been numerous other collaborations between the two.

Indeed, right now, a partnership between Pokémon and McDonald’s is underway. Although this promotion is currently exclusive to Japan, Pokémon toys based on the Pokémon Horizons anime are being incorporated into McDonald’s Happy Meals temporarily. These toys draw inspiration from the main characters of the anime series and are being rolled out in stages.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m eagerly anticipating the arrival of Pokemon trading cards this fall, as they’re set to make a comeback in McDonald’s Happy Meals across the US. While it’s uncertain if the current Pokemon/McDonald’s toys will be available outside Japan, the French version of these promotions typically follows the US by a month or two, so we can expect them in France from December 2024 to January 2025. However, this year’s promotion is happening later than usual, and it’s unclear why that is. It’s essential to note that official announcements about the US version of the McDonald’s Pokemon cards have yet to be made, so we should manage our expectations until further notice.

At the moment, we don’t know which specific Pokémon cards will be part of the upcoming McDonald’s promotion.

It’s likely that Pokemon trading cards will reappear at McDonald’s this fall as suggested. The partnership might align with the debut of the new Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket mobile game. This mobile version of the classic Pokemon Trading Card game appears promising based on early previews. However, an exact release date for the mobile app hasn’t been shared yet, and it’s uncertain if its launch will be near the McDonald’s promotion. The game is expected to come out in 2024 at some point, though.
