Pokemon Champions: How to Get Shiny Pokemon & Special Titles

Kitt’s Recruitment Ranch is one of the few ways to add Pokémon to your team in Pokémon Champions, other than transferring them from other games using Pokémon Home. Unlike other Pokémon games, Champions doesn’t have a traditional story mode where you can catch Pokémon yourself, so you’ll need to depend on luck to find the Pokémon you’re looking for.

When you try to add Pokémon to your team in Pokémon Champions, you’ll see a random group of ten. You can then choose to do a 7-day trial recruitment or permanently add a Pokémon, depending on how much in-game currency you want to use. There’s also a small chance that one or two of the Pokémon offered will be a rare, shiny version!

How to Get Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Champions

Based on what we’ve observed both online and through playing the game, shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Champions can only be obtained through chance during the recruitment process, or by transferring them from Pokémon Home.

During the recruitment process, you’ll encounter a scene at the ranch where three Pokémon are hidden in bushes. If the final bush sparkles when it appears, a shiny Pokémon will show up in your team lineup. Keep an eye out, though – there’s another visual effect, like shiny bubbles around the Pokémon’s outline, and that indicates something different altogether.

I haven’t managed to snag a shiny Pokemon myself in Pokemon Champions yet, but I just watched a YouTube Short of SupaMario catching a shiny Banette, and you can see the cool shiny animation! Heads up though, the clip has a little bit of swearing in it.

Pokemon Champions Titles, Explained (Socialable, Early Riser, Spacey, Etc)

If you notice sparkling bubbles around a Pokémon, like in the picture, it means that Pokémon might have a unique title or characteristic – for example, you could find a Ninetails known as ‘The Sociable,’ a Milotic called ‘The Early Riser,’ or a Pikachu labeled ‘The Spacey.’ These bubbles can also indicate a Pokémon has a hidden ability, such as Pikachu with the Lightning Rod ability.

The title you choose for your Pokémon is just for show – it doesn’t make them stronger in battle. However, when your Pokémon appear in a fight, the game will display the full title you gave them instead of just their regular name.
