Nintendo has announced that Pokemon Champions will be released on Nintendo Switch on April 8, 2026. Although fans will need to wait until 2027 for the next generation of Pokemon games, Pokemon Champions is coming to Switch much sooner. A release date for the iOS and Android versions of the game hasn’t been announced yet.
The game Pokemon Champions was revealed in February 2025 during the annual Pokemon Day presentation. It’s a battle-focused title where players will compete in arena-style matches, requiring strategic thinking and a strong understanding of core Pokemon mechanics like type matchups, abilities, and status conditions to win. Many fans have noted similarities to the classic Pokemon Stadium games on the N64, and it appears Pokemon Champions will especially appeal to players who enjoy competitive Pokemon battles.

The official Pokémon website has announced that Pokémon Champions will be released worldwide on Nintendo Switch on April 8, 2026. It will also be playable on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and while a dedicated version isn’t planned, Switch 2 owners will receive a free update that enhances the game’s graphics. A mobile version is also being developed, and Nintendo has confirmed that players on any platform – Switch, Switch 2, or mobile – will be able to battle each other once it’s released.
Pokemon Champions will offer a lot of different ways to play and battle, keeping things fresh and exciting. You’ll be able to choose from ranked, casual, or private matches, and decide whether to battle one-on-one or with doubles. The game will also host regular online competitions with unique rules that change each season. As you battle, you’ll earn Victory Points (VP) which can be used to improve your Pokemon – boosting their stats, changing their abilities, or teaching them new moves. You can also spend VP on Mega Stones, helpful battle items, or cool customization options for your trainer.
Pokemon Champions lets players collect their favorite Pokemon from different games, all in one place. You can easily transfer Pokemon using the Pokemon Home app. Besides bringing over your existing team, the game also lets you recruit a random Pokemon each day. Keep in mind that these daily recruits are only temporary—they’ll stay with you for a week unless you use in-game currency to add them to your team permanently, and they can’t be sent to Pokemon Home.
When Pokemon Champions launches, players won’t have access to every Pokemon right away. The game won’t include the complete Pokedex of over 1,000 Pokemon on April 8th. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company haven’t released a full list of available Pokemon yet, but they did announce that Mega Meganium, Mega Emboar, and Mega Feraligatr will be playable, each with brand new, unique moves. The latest trailer also showcased many other Pokemon that will be included, such as Gallade, Milotic, Palafin, Whimsicott, Armorogue, Mega Charizard X, Tyranitar, Lucario, Mimikyu, and Garchomp.
