Pokemon Delivering on One Anticipated Update Would End 2024 with a Bang

Pokemon Delivering on One Anticipated Update Would End 2024 with a Bang

As a lifelong Pokemon enthusiast who grew up catching ’em all and still eagerly awaits each new iteration, I can’t help but feel a bit of anticipation tinged with frustration at this year’s lackluster Pokemon updates. Don’t get me wrong, I love playing Pokemon Go and Unite, but it feels like we’re missing the big, heart-pounding announcement that comes with a new mainline game.

Apart from the Game Freak leak, 2024 has been a relatively quiet year for Pokémon. The extra content for the DLC of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was released in January, but the only significant announcement at the February Pokémon Presents event was the unveiling of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Throughout the year, ongoing Pokémon titles like Pokémon Go, Pokémon Sleep, and Pokémon Unite have received updates, and the mobile app Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is also part of this lineup. However, with no signs of a traditional late-summer Pokémon Presents or more news about Pokémon Legends: Z-A, it appears that 2024 might not be a stellar year for Pokémon.

Due to Nintendo’s upcoming next Switch console being just around the corner, there are valid explanations for the prolonged silence. It’s speculated that Nintendo delayed the console to develop both hardware and software for its release, which aligns with the minimal 2024 game lineup they have announced. Although there are rumors about Pokemon Legends: Z-A aiming for the current Switch, it could still be coordinated with the launch of the new Switch 2 if it’s backward compatible. With Nintendo primarily focusing on the original Switch for now, Pokemon Legends: Z-A may reveal its second trailer whenever it’s prepared, and releasing it by the end of 2024 would help offset what could otherwise be a quiet year.

When Pokemon Legends: Z-A Could Unveil Its Next Trailer

2024 still has some time left on the clock, and there’s a chance we might see another Nintendo Direct or Pokemon Presents-like event before the year ends. Historically, both Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have preferred to set their own schedules and skip industry events. This year alone, Nintendo skipped its usual September Direct. Following this trend, it’s plausible that Pokemon Legends: Z-A could suddenly debut during the December Game Awards. Although Nintendo usually attends these events primarily for award ceremonies, they have a history of surprising us with major reveals, like the Joker DLC trailer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so it’s not entirely out of the question that they might do something similar this year.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Could Accompany A 2024 Switch 2 Reveal

It’s likely that Nintendo will unveil the Switch 2 in their upcoming presentation, but it might not be as early as January or February in 2025. The exact timing could range from mid-November to the end of December, depending on how they want to manage sales for the current Switch. This event is expected to bring a host of new information, including a trailer for Pokemon Legends.

What The Next Pokemon Legends: Z-A Trailer Could Show

The main curiosity revolves around the contents of the upcoming trailer for “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”. There are several strong possibilities as to what could be inside. Although it’s speculated that “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” might feature some familiar starter Pokemon like in “Legends: Arceus”, it remains unclear which ones exactly. The next trailer for “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” may provide clarification on this, but it’s likely that the new Kalos-exclusive evolutions will still be kept secret. After its upcoming trailer is released, fans should have a clearer understanding of the Pokemon lineup in “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Can Finally Gain An Identity

As a passionate gamer eagerly awaiting the release of “Pokemon Legends: Z-A,” I can’t help but feel intrigued by the mysteries that surround this upcoming game. Despite having seen its CG reveal trailer almost a year ago, we still don’t know much about what exactly we’ll be doing with our Pokemon in Lumiose City. The only thing we know is that some urban redevelopment project is underway there.
