Shogakukan, a Japanese comic publishing house, has confirmed that the authentic “Pokemon Ecology Encyclopedia” will hit shelves on June 18th. Unlike previous Pokemon books published by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, which were typically contracted out to third-party companies offering fundamental facts with mediocre artwork, this new hardcover Pokemon index seems to be a more elaborate undertaking.
Pokémon continues to be one of the most financially successful intellectual properties in the entertainment sector, spreading across various types of media. It appears that the companies behind it – Nintendo, Creatures, and Game Freak – are aiming to boost its popularity even further by introducing a new strategy.
Based on Famitsu reports, the “Pokémon Ecology Encyclopedia” is a comprehensive guide encompassing approximately 1,000 creatures from the Pokémon franchise. Set to launch in Japan on June 18th, this book can be pre-ordered at select retailers such as Amazon Japan under the title “Pokecology.” Led by professional ecologist Yoshinari Yonehara, the research focuses on studying, understanding, and explaining the lives of wild Pokémon. The goal is to delve into how these creatures interact with each other and discover their behavioral patterns, emphasizing their unique traits, shared characteristics, social norms, and connections within the Pokémon world. Additionally, it’s important to mention that the “Pokémon Ecology Encyclopedia” will comprise 192 pages and be priced at approximately ¥1,430, equivalent to around $10 USD.
The Pokemon Ecology Encyclopedia Is Already a Bestseller
Before its official launch, “Pokecology” hasn’t reached the market yet, but the excitement for the Pokemon franchise in Japan is so high that it has climbed up to the second position on Amazon Japan’s bestseller list. However, no news is available about an international release or an English version of this encyclopedia. Given the high demand, there’s a possibility that the publisher may consider releasing it worldwide at some point. For now, it seems that only Japanese fans will have access to a copy.
Chihiro Kinoshita, a renowned artist who specializes in ecology-themed books, is in charge of the artwork for this upcoming book. The illustrations will be richly colored and meticulously detailed to emphasize the biological aspects of Pokemon life. Both Yoshinari Yonehara and Chihiro Kinoshita are alumni from the University of Tokyo’s Agriculture and Life Sciences department, adding an expert ecological viewpoint to the project. As a consequence, the Pokemon Ecology Encyclopedia or Pokecology is predicted to provide unique, previously unseen insights into the franchise’s cherished creatures. However, with only a few details disclosed thus far, fans will probably have to wait until its release to fully understand what this book has in store.
